Poster Session

Participants in the workshop will present posters about their work and the workshop themes at a poster session that coincides with the start of the SSILA and LSA meetings. The theme of the poster session is “Insights from practices in community-based Indigenous language work.” The goal of the poster session is to serve as a forum for workshop participants to share their experience, knowledge, and research results with the wider SSILA and LSA community. Presenters may wish to share the challenges and successes of past documentation, revitalization, teaching, research, or other language projects.

If you have been funded through our NSF grant to attend the workshop, you are expected to prepare and present a poster at the session. For all other participants, presentation of a poster is optional. If you plan to present a poster, please send a title and 300-word abstract for you poster as soon as possible for inclusion on the workshop website. There will not be a review process for posters, as all invited participants are qualified to present a poster on this theme.

Posters may be in any language. They should be a maximum size of 48 inches (horizontal) by 36 inches (vertical). Smaller posters are okay. You may present a joint poster with other workshop participants. Guidelines for poster preparation can be found here.

There are a few options for printing your poster near the Sheraton New York Times Square.

1. Inside the hotel is a FedEx that offers printing of 36 inch by 24 inch posters for around $100. Please note that this is the maximum size printed at this location, and that prices at this FedEx are significantly higher than other locations due to it being inside the conference hotel. If you choose this option, please be sure to drop off your poster as early as possible on January 2nd. They open at 8AM on January 2nd but are closed on January 1st.

2. There are two Staples print centers nearby. One is at 1755 Broadway, New York, NY 10019, the other is at 776 8th Ave, New York, NY 10036. These centers also offer a maximum poster size of 36 inches by 24 inches. Prices, as shown here, range from $30-$40. If you choose this option, please be sure to drop off your poster as early as possible on January 2nd. They open at 7AM on January 2nd but are closed on January 1st.
