Great job by the Brothers at the Penn Relays;

Our 4x100 (Isaiah Scarlett, Avery Covington, Tyler Richter, Orville Ivey) placed 5th in their heat and had the fastest time of the Section 2 competitors in 45.33. It was the team's fastest time of the season. Sumahri Stewart qualified for the trip as the 1st alternate.

Our 4x400 had similar success. (Nate Rodriguez, Colin Mance, Jordan Proulx, Alec Haring) placed 4th in their heat of 15 schools and was the second ranked Section 2 school at Penn in 3:31.8--our fastest time in many a year at CBA. Chris West qualified as the 1st alternate and could have easily been on the team.

Our Frosh/Soph 4x100 did well with C. Jones, Ucci, Ding & Borrowiec.

Both our 4x400's competed to the end. With almost everyone running a 2nd race:

Hendrick-62, Mangione-61, McGuinn-60 and N. Foster 60.5 and Calagna-62, Roche-67, Arena-68, & Douglass-66.

Our varsity 4x100 ran well: Caron-13.3; Bass-13.9; Grant-13.0; Skinner-13.3 - very close group running in that one.

Finally the Frosh/Soph SMR with Li, Grant Ucci and Foster were very competitive.

Exceptional performances:

The 4x100 team looked awesome. Speed and crisp stunning hand offs. All their hard work under coaches Aidan and Ivey really paid off. The team of I. Scarlett, A. Covington, T. Richter and O. Ivey won going away in a blazing time of 45.0. Orville Ivey and Isaiah Scarlett also won and placed 3rd in the 100m respectively. Ivey's time was a fantastic 11.1 (PR) with Scarlett running an 11.4 Both PR's

Colin Mance placed 2nd in the Long Jump (20'2" , 3rd in the 200m (23.9) and was a member of the victorious 4x400 relay. That relay capped off the meet in stunning style leading from beginning to end in a 3:39.4. With N. Rodriguez -- 54.9, C. Mance 55.2, Chris West- 55.4(PR) and A. Haring 54.1. We had a couple of PR's that led to fifth place finishes in Nick Mandato ("I finally broke 11 in the 2 mile") 10:52 and Sean Hendrick's 800 in 2:15. Ryley Moran was right behind Sean in 7th in the 800 with a PR time of 2:16.

Keegan Skinner placed 3rd overall in the 110HH (19.0) in finals but an 18.6 in the semis. Ethan Foster kept his streak going by winning the High Jump once again with a leap of 6'. Coach Nick O'Brien has been working with Ethan. 7th grader Phil Bianco ran a personal Record (PR) in the mile with a time of 5:16. Ajit Saran (with the guidance of Coach Smith) placed 6th in the 400IH in a 69.9 PR and Liam Hotaling (9th gr) leapt 32'11 3/4" PR in the Triple Jump. Our 4x800 placed 7th with J. Sanchirico, J. Mangione (8th gr)--PR 2:22, S. Calagna and N. Foster. J. Picchione finished 7th in the discus. Tyler Richter also had a PR in the Long Jump in 17'9" Our Long Jump/Triple Jump Guru, Paul Mance saw some exciting results today.

All in all it was a tremendous day for CBA track & field. The improvement by these above athletes and others from today is most gratifying. Hopefully they all will see what hard work and determination can do. We had some injured athletes who came to watch (Tommy McAvoy and Connor McGuinn) which exhibits some of the dedication this team is beginning to show.

Thanks to the Parents who came again today to cheer on their boys and the rest of the CBA Track & Field family. Today was a good day... What a difference a week can make in the weather conditions.

CBA vs Shaker League Meet - 3/27/18

Horrible weather conditions today (cold and windy), but CBA had a fairly good day at the Shaker High School Scrimmage. We only competed in 5 events: 100,200,400,800,1600. No hurdles or field events.

Overall we actually would have lost 30-25 but we won 3 of the 5 events. We finished 1st in the Mile (Chris West-4:55); 1st in the 400 (Alec Haring-53.3 PR); 1st in the 100 (Orville Ivey 11.6).

I was impressed with many of our new recruits. Their first time running and they did quite well. Also some of our injured runners returning to action after long layoffs. ( Stewart, Foster, Roche, Decker, Campbell, Schaepkens, Jones, Feygin, Sanchirico, Scarlett, Mance). In addition some fine performances by our young guns (Hendricks, Covington, Mangione, Ding, Souvorinov, Hohenforst). Our returnees had solid performances also: Richter, Caron, Calagna, Mandato, Murphy, Vogel T & M, Caldon , Blood, Hotaling, Arena.

Cannoneer Invitational - Watervliet High School - April 22, 2016

Awesome effort by a depleted CBA Varsity team. With only 21 athletes (several last minute NO SHOWS) , and competing against 15 teams, the Brothers charged to a thrilling second place finish. Trailing badly after the first half of the meet, CBA began a great second half comeback. Mike Flowers (4:45) took 6th in the 1600; Rob Amore (63.5) finished 4th in the 400IH and Keegan Skinner placed 3rd (11') in the Pole Vault. COLIN MANCE then set things afire with a CBA FRESHMAN record in the Long Jump with an amazing leap of 21'10" ( 2" further than CBA's Chuck Dukes many years ago). The coaching expertise of his dad, assistant coach Paul Mance is really paying off , not only for Colin but for our other jumpers as well (John McCane 7th in the Triple Jump and Scott Trobridge 10th in the TJ with a PR) Joe Lauria, coming off an injury continues to regain his old form.

The final 2 running events for CBA put the finishing touches on the Brothers overall 2nd place finish! Kevin LaFleche, continued his dominance of the section 2 middle distance runners by leading the 800m run from start to finish, gliding effortlessly over the finish line in 1:59. In the same race 8th grader and future star Nate Rodriguez continued to set PR's with a 2:17. In our last race of the day Mike Carnavos again lead the 3200m run from start to finish winning by several hundred meters over the 2nd place finisher. In a blink of an eye CBA had amassed enough points to finish second overall.

We had solid performances by our 4x800 team (Brian. Lafleche 2:17, Rob Cassidy 2:20; Andrew Demeter 2:20 & Frosh Dylan. Bogdon 2:17(PR)); our hurdling crew( Keegan Skinner, Dan LeNane & Brady Van Epps) Our hurdling Coach Lynn McCane was on hand to watch her trainees make another very respectable showing. Nick DeNicola (11.88) just missed the finals in the 100m finishing 7th. Ryan Coffey (12.5) Soph Rob Amore (12.1), 8th grader Isaiah Scarlett (12.4) & Frosh Colin Mance (11.6) ran 10th in the 4x100 -and with 3 out of 4 being underclassmen the future for sprinting under the tutelage of Coach Mike Smith and Coach Aidan OMalley looks very good. Felix Day had another PR in the 400 (57.9) and continues to show improvement. Finally, with Coach Ross Martin watching closely, our weight men, Ian Swanson (Shot Put 37'7"-PR) and Xavier Polombo (SP-36'8") continue to improve on a steady basis.

It was an outstanding performance again for the Brothers runners, throwers & Jumpers. I was proud of everyone's effort. It was great to see all of the parents, friends and family members of our CBA athletes present to cheer on the team.

- Coach O'Malley

Keep up the good work. - Coach O'Malley

Albright Invitational - Albany Academy - April 16, 2016

What a difference a day makes. Beautiful weather and outstanding performances culminating in the most exciting race of the meet- were all part of CBA's track team efforts today. I could not be more proud of how our athletes competed this day. Although we had several no shows and numerous conflicts of interest which led to a rather small contingent of varsity athletes competing today ( a total of 18 athletes in all). However the small number competing did not affect the large heart they all exhibited.

As a team CBA finished 2nd ( we were tied after the next to last event) out of an 11 team congregation. With only 18 athletes we scored 95 points!

Our SCORERS : 110HH - Keegan Skinner-5th (18.7); 100m-Nick DeNicola-4th (11.7)- (Dylan Gotay ran a PR of 11.8 in making it all the way to the semi finals); 4X800 :Brian LaFleche (2:17), Rob Cassidy (2:17), Andrew Demeter (2:19), Dylan Bogdan (2:19)-4th; 1600- Mike Flowers (4:39) -4th;400m-Brad Cornell (54.4-PR) 2nd; 400IH-Rob Amore (64.6)-2nd, Brady Van Epps-(65.8 PR) 3rd ; 800- Kevin LaFlech (2:02)-1ST PLACE, Nate Rodriguez (2:18-8th grader) 5th; 3200-Mike Carnavos (10:01) 1ST PLACE; Shot Put - Xavier Polombo (36') ,Hanover Dill (35'11"PR); Pole Vault- Keegan Skinner (11'6") 2nd; High Jump-John McCane (5'3") 5th;Triple Jump-John McCane (38'11") 1ST PLACE; Long Jump-Colin Mance (20'6" PR) 2nd; 4X400- Fastest time of the year for CBA and most exciting race of the day:: Brad Cornell (54.8), Brady Van Epps (55.9PR), Mike Flowers (54.9 PR), Kevin LaFleche (51.3 PR) Kevin came from 30m behind and 20m behind on the last straightaway to win by 1 step- VERY EXCITING 3:38 team time 10 seconds faster than anything else this indoor or outdoor season by CBA.

ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR CBA,THE COMPETITORS, THEIR PARENTS and THE COACHES (Aidan OMalley, MIke Smith, Paul Mance, Lynn McCane, Ross Martin)

Kevin LaFleche placed 6th in the open 800 running a 1:59.1( On a cold windy & wet day). Our only other scorer today. Kevin has qualified for the State Qualifying meet this Thursday at UAlbany. In addition, Kevin has qualified for the Eastern States meet next Sunday in New Rochelle, NY. Mike Flowers had a personal best in the 1600m run in 4:38.9 and Mike Carnavos also had a personal best in the 3200m run in 10:28. Colin Mance & Joe Lauria had solid performances in the Long Jump as did John McCane in the triple Jump. Ryan Coffey & Nick Lewis gained valuable experience competing in the 200m dash.

It was a bittersweet day as some of our Track & Field stalwarts competed in their last competition as CBA students. Seniors Mike Crisafulli, Nick & Liam OBrien all ran their last race for CBA today. It won’t be the same without them.

Eddy Meet - Schenectady, NY - May 16, 2015

THE 75th running of the prestigious “EDDY Meet “ was Saturday 5/16 & CBA entered three (3) of our star athletes in the 800m run. All 3 were seeded in the Fast heat of the 800 against runners from NYC, Long Island, Westchester, Southern, Eastern & Western NY State. Junior Kevin LaFleche took 4th place overall in 1:56.30 (PR) and Liam O’Brien, in spite of being spiked twice in his knee and lower leg, toughed it out for 7th place in 1:59.28. Nick O’Brien , after competing in 3 track meets in the last 7 days succumbed to the heat /humidity and struggled home in 2:06. After a well -deserved rest Nick will be back in his usual form. Kevin’s time was a Personal Record and one of the fastest times for a Junior in CBA’s history.

Shenendehowa Invitational Clifton Park, NY - May 8, 2015

We had some excellent performances at the 1st annual Shen Night meet. This meet had tough entry standards which were met by a select few CBA varsity athletes.

Mike Carnavos a 20 second PR in the 3200m run finishing 9th overall in 10:31.6

Mike Crisafulli finishing 13th in the extremely punishing 3000m Steeplechase with a 30 second PR -11:38.9.

John McCane finishing 8th (top 8 score points)- in a PR of 40’9” in the Triple Jump. John also cleared 5’ in the High jump.

CBA’s 4x 8 team[ Kaushik Pilar2:07-Alex. Rapp 2:20- Brian LaFleche2:22} welcomed back Mike Buyaskas-2:24 from a long injury layoff. Kaushik’s 2:07 was his fastest in 1 ½ years.

Austin Ellis finished 8th in the 200 dash in 22.9 (R. Coffey 25.1, N. Lewis 25.7 (injury)

Colin. Mance (17’8”) & Joe. Lauria (16’5”) in the Long Jump

Xavier Palumbo- 34’4” Shot Put

Robbie Amore- 1:05.4 in the always tough 400m Intermediate Hurdles.

Mike Flowers had a tough day in the 1600 (4:51) but toughed it out to the end.

Finally the event of the day for CBA the 800m run where we placed 3 of our top athletes in 5th, 6th & 7th place overall. Liam O'Brien, after a tough start- he was tripped up- (there 16 runners in the seeded (fastest heat)) came on strong to finish 7th in 1:59.2. Nick O'Brien went out strong, and although there was a lot of bumping, hung in for 6th place in 1:59.1(PR) and finally Kevin LaFleche’s one shoe run. Kevin was stepped on by a runner from behind at the start and his track spikes were ripped off his foot. He ran the next 740m out of a total 800m with only one shoe and was still able to finish 5th in 1:58.8. . The 800 was a wild ride for all of our runners but they stood tall.

Fonda Fultonville Modified Meet - May 8, 2015

This was simply an amazing meet for our “young” but experienced CBA runners. Needless to say the summer (forget spring) temps in the low 90’s made competing that much more difficult. Then add in competition from 17 other schools and our guys had their work cut out for them.

There were 6-7 heats in every race that our guys competed in except for the 800M (waterfall start) and 4x100 Relay. That meant that they competed against 36-40 other runners.

So here we go in event order:

200M Jimmy McDonald 29.6 (PR)(14th), Ryley Moran 31.7 (PR)(25th)

100M Won by Isiah Scarlett 12.2 (PR), Taj Bass 13.2 (PR)(5th Place)

400M Nate Rodriquez 64.0 (PR) (5th Place)

800M Winston Clapper 3:06.7 (PR) (9th) Nate Sullivan 3:33.9 (PR)(19th) Both guys set new PR by 8 seconds.

4x100M Relay Jimmy McDonald, Ryley Moran, Nate Rodriquez, Isiah Scarlett 57.2 (4thPlace) with some better stick work and communication on the track they would have been 2ndor 3rd it was very close.

High Jump – Nate Rodriquez 3’ 9” – The bar progressed while Nate had to contend with running – so we called it a day.

They all had PRs on a trying field of competition. We coaches could not be prouder of how they ran as well as their outstanding personal conduct.

Colonie Relays - May 2, 2015

Congratulations to the Sprint Medley team Ryan Coffey '17 (200m-Leg 1), Nick Lewis '16 (200m-Leg 2), Austin Ellis '15 (400m-Leg 3) and Kevin LaFleche '16 (800m-Anchor Leg) for setting a new Outdoor Track and Field school record of 3:37.50!

What a beautiful day for a track meet at the Colonie Relays. It garnered many of the best teams in Section 2. It was the nicest weather of the year to date. With that in mind we were hoping for performances that were worthy of this fine day.. And we got them….

Early in the am we started off with several JV races. Our 4x200 m relay had all 4 performers earning PR’s (Personal Records): J. Lewis-PR-30.9, M. Melecio-PR 25.6, Justin Kenyon-PR- 34.0, Jon Kenyon-PR-26.9 1st in their heat & 13th out of 24 teams overall.

Sprint Medley Relay: Jon. Kenyon, M. Melecio, H.Fernandez, A. Thorp-PR-2:55 (800) 14th out of 22 teams.

Varsity races commenced in the afternoon:

3x11HH: Amore (19.8), Skinner (18.9), McCane (19.7) all PR’s 8th place overall.

Long Jump Relay-C. Mance 18’9” outdoor PR, J. Lauria-17’1 1/2”-PR, Lewis 16’2” ( great for rushing to meet after taking the SAT’s) 9th place

Triple Jump Relay- missed out on medals by 1’ 7th place. K.Mullady (welcome back) 37-PR, C. Mance-33’8”, McCane-37’7”

4x800 Relay- Rapp-2:21.9-PR, Demeter-2:29, N. Rodriguez-2 :34-(7th grade)-PR, Cassidy-2 :20-PR.11th place

4x200m Relay : Lauria, Mance (24.5-PR), Bass, Brito (24.8-PR)[2 8th graders , a 7th & 10th grader] 13th overall

Discus & Shot Put: the teams were a bit depleted due to 3 missing teammates and Joe Lewis came back to the meet to fill in for 1 missing teammate. Thanks JOE. However, X. Palumbo and H. Dill still performed admirably under difficult circumstances.H. Dill made it to the meet after taking his SAT’s.

4x1mile Relay: M. Carnavos -4:48 –PR –leadoff. Then solid performances by a doubling K. Pilar (5:13), M. Crisafulli (5:21) & B. LaFleche (5:27) both of whom are returning from long injury layoffs. 7th place overall just missing medals.

4x100m Relay : Fine performance by our youngsters- Brito (12.5), Amore (12.8), Bass (13.8), Mance (11.5) [frosh, 2 8th graders & a 7th grader] the future is bright. 8th overall

These final 2 races I left for the end as they were absolutely OUTSTANDING. Both of these teams finished 2nd overall and beat the likes of Shenendehowa, Colonie, Shaker, Guilderland, Saratoga, Burnt Hills; amongst a host of others - the cream of the crop of Section 2.

Distance Medley Relay: Mike Flowers lead off 3:23 -1200m leg-PR- 4th place, K. Pilar (who never runs the 400 had to fill in as a host of our sprinters have been injured) ran 54.6 and kept us in the top 4, Then Nick O'Brien ran his best 800 leg ever -1:59.4 to come from 40 meters behind to give us a small lead over the VAUNTED team from Shenendehowa. Liam O'Brien ran a great final leg- 4:33(PR) in the mile and was nipped at the line by Shen. The team time of 10:52.8 was the fastest DMR by CBA in the last 15 years and was close to the school record.

Finally, not to be outdone the Sprint Medley team performed another miracle. R. Coffey 24.9 (200), & N. Lewis (24.4-PR) ran excellent starter legs but CBA found itself in 6th place. A.Ellis ran a spectacular 400m leg (50.1) to close the gap to 4th place. Kevin LaFleche then ran the race of the day by outkicking all except Colonie Star Jake Johnson and ran a PR and the fastest 800 leg at CBA in the last 12 years -1:56.7. Kevin outkicked Guilderland superstar Noah Carey down the last straightaway for a 3:37.50. Congratulations to the SMR team for setting a NEW CBA TRACK & FIELD OUTDOOR SCHOOL RECORD (metric measurement) !!!!

All the hard work by these athletes and their coaches (SMITH, VAN EPPS, MANCE & OMALLEY) is starting to produce results. The future of the team and many of these athletes is bright indeed!!

League Meet - Albany & Troy - April 22, 2015

Congratulations to the CBA track team as they handily defeated the teams from Albany & Troy. The meet was conducted under extremely poor weather conditions (cold, wind & rain). We had victories in the 100m (Ellis) ; 4x100 (Avery, Lewis, Coffey, McIntyre); 4x800 (Pilar, Carnavos , Nick.O'Brien, Kevin Lafleche);

400m (Ellis); TJ( McCane), Discus (Dill), 800 (Flowers), 1600 (Flowers) 3200 (Carnavos). Some other highlights include Kevin Lafleche competing and scoring in 4 running events (400, 800, 1600, 3200). In addition, Ethan Foster scored varsity points in the HJ. Joe Lauria PR’d in his 5th consecutive race. Keegan Skinner scored in 3 events. Jaylen McIntyre running on an injured leg hobbled & hopped his way across the finish line anchoring the victorious 4x100 relay. A great effort by all in horrible conditions.

IN FACT I BELIEVE THERE WERE ONLY 5 SENIORS COMPETING TODAY OUT OF THE 26 CBA ATHLETES WHO PARTICIPATED. WE MISSED MANY OF OUR UPPERCLASSMEN DUE TO INJURY, PERSONAL CONFLICTS & COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS. THIS GAVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW WHAT OUR YOUNGSTERS COULD DO AND DID THEY EVER PUT ON A “SHOW”. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN. THE HARD WORK MANY OF OUR ATHLETES HAVE PUT IN IS STARTING TO TAKE HOLD.
