Christopher Banks Bio

With over 20 years of manufacturing experience, I have seen and experienced first-hand the impact our legislative body has on driving the state's economy. As an ordained minister, I have counseled and encouraged individuals through all kinds of situations. I understand the role that our legislators play in the lives of citizens: from the 'right to work', socio-economic stresses, education inequity, mental health and the cost of health care, to threats to our environment and natural resources.

I am running for office because I believe all households, working class or otherwise, deserve to be heard. It is our American right to live a healthy and prosperous life.

I learned early on the value of money, what it means to 'do my part', and the necessity of community. My mother taught me the importance of hard work and treating every individual with respect -- attributes I will put to work for you. As your state representative you can expect me to work hard for you and 'do my part' to advocate for well-paying jobs, robust educational opportunities , small business entrepreneurship, health, safety and your well being.

I am your 2018 Democratic candidate in Ottawa county who is not afraid to represent all Michiganders.

• Resident of Holland for more than 26 years.
• Over 20 years in manufacturing; 10 years in the automotive industry.
• Ordained minister.
• Born and raised by a single mother in Memphis, Tennessee.
• Blessed to support various charities: Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, Kid's Food Basket and St. Jude's Children's Hospital, among others.
• Here to "do my part" in establishing our great state as a beacon of hope.

My Platform

ECONOMY: I will work with state legislators to create an environment that is conducive to thriving business of all kinds; focusing on innovative ideas to encourage entrepreneurship and grow our fiscal status as a Top Ten state for businesses.

HEALTH CARE: Universal health care for all; Re-establishing funds for mental health care facilities.

LIVABLE WAGES: I support raising the minimum wage to $15.00/hr. Without wage increases we are doing a disservice to our state economy and the families working to raise children on minimum wage.

EQUITABLE EDUCATION: I promote robust education for students in every zip code by way of standardize curriculum and high caliber educators. I also believe in empowering local PTA's to provide stand-in-the-gap mentorship to parents who may require assistance.

ROADS & INFRASTRUCTURE: It is estimated that Michigan's road and bridge repairs will cost approximately $4 billion dollars a year. I will advocate for creative sources to fund infrastructure repairs so that they can be made without raising taxes.

ENVIRONMENT: I will advocate stricter laws, fines and criminal prosecution to discourage any entity that would dare pollute our land, water or air.

SCHOOL SAFETY: Gun control is necessary to protect our students and administrators. I will advocate for in-depth solution by implementation of proven security measures on school grounds.
