In my domain, standard domain users are not able to install a program. But there are some programs that doesnt require admin rights to be installed. I was wondering if i can block them with Sophos. I have tried application block but for that i need to know the application name. Thank you for your help.

Is there any way to stop a user from installing programs on their computer? We'll be running Server 2016. I've tried denying them local admin rights (which I did successfully). But, to no avail. I've also tried forcing the programs to run as elevated privilege, once again, to no avail.

If you implement Group Policy on your server, add your restricted users to the group that will have the limitations. In the GP Editor there a virtually every single parameter available to prevent users from performing certain operations. Including using a USB drive, you can disable them when a certain account logs in. Needless to say, it will take you some time to locate, restrict and test all of the functionality. It is tedious, but the preferred method to accomplish your goal.

I have an application server running Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) on Windows Server 2016 in an isolated Azure cloud environment and would like to prevent the users (who login via RDP) from being able to install software on a whim. How to best enforce this?

I thought that denying admin rights to users a long time ago was enough, but I'm finding chrome and edge exe's installed in users appdata folders. Is there an easy way to prevent users from installing web browsers and other software on an RDS?

Is there any way to prevent end users from installing applications on their own when using a full desktop group? I noticed someone managed to install an app into the program files folder so all of the users received it.

How do you prevent non-admin users from installing a game on a computer? A game like Steam would require the password because it installs it on all users, but a game like Roblox would not need a password because it installs it only on a specific user. How would I block games like Roblox from installing?

This setting can prevent users from installing software on their systems or permit users to install only those programs offered by a system administrator. If you enable this setting, you can use the options in the Disable Windows Installer box to establish an installation setting.

we have a small office (25pcs) running ubuntu 13.04. Is there a group policy on ubuntu that will disable all installations of programs. I want to disable the users installing random programs. I know in windows you can, not so sure sure about Ubuntu 13.04. Any help will be appreciated. THANKS

I need to develop a process that will detect if the users computer has certain programs installed and if so, what version. I believe I will need a list with the registry location and keys to look for and feed it to the program which is not a problem. Is there a better way to accomplish this?

As I've found out, there are some limitation now for installing printer drivers from print server - non-admin users are not allowed to do it. How can I resolve that? I've been doing some research online and found some solutions but it is still not working for me.

By default Microsoft recommends to deploy Printers using GPO instead of user installing the printer, to avoid security issues or workarounds. You seem to have applied all the steps known by the community to enable that workaround and allow the users to install certain printers based in Classes, but for some reason the system is still ignoring it.

You can if you wish restrict users from installing programs in Windows 7 , Windows Vista, Windows XP , Windows 2000 & Windows Server family. You can do so by using certain Group Policy settings to control the behavior of the Windows Installer, prevent certain programs from running or restrict via the Registry Editor.

This setting extends elevated privileges to all programs. These privileges are usually reserved for programs that have been assigned to the user (offered on the desktop), assigned to the computer (installed automatically), or made available in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. This setting lets users install programs that require access to directories that the user might not have permission to view or change, including directories on highly restricted computers.

This setting only prevents users from running programs that are started by the Windows Explorer process. It does not prevent users from running programs, such as Task Manager, that are started by the system process or by other processes. Also, if you permit users to gain access to the command prompt, cmd.exe, this setting does not prevent them from starting programs in the command window that they are not permitted to start by using Windows Explorer. Note: To create a list of disallowed applications, click Show. In the Show Contents dialog box, in the Value column, type the application executable name (e.g., msiexec.exe).

Are you checking a way to stop installing unwanted programs in your Windows 7 computer ? If yes, you can use the application lock feature of Windows 7. AppLocker (Application Locker) is a Windows 7 feature which ensure the users of your computer can install the applications / software which you specify only. Using this you can prevent the installation of any potentially harmful software on your computer. To use this feature you should go to group policy editor and set rules in AppLocker.

There are some simple Group Policy Settings, which if appropriately configured, can help to prevent data breaches. You can make your organizational network safer by configuring the security and operational behavior of computers through Group Policy (a group of settings in the computer registry). Through Group Policy, you can prevent users from accessing specific resources, run scripts, and perform simple tasks such as forcing a particular home page to open for every user in the network.

If you perform an XML backup (for example, when upgrading Jira applications or migrating them to another server), you can use one of the methods described on this page to prevent users from accessing Jira applications and minimize inconsistencies in the backup file.

These are how to stop programs installing on C drive and how to move installed applications to another drive. AOMEI Partition Assistant has many helpful ways to assist Windows users to optimize their devices. It also has AOMEI Partition Assistant Server for Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012(R2)/2008(R2) users.

Consider creating service control policies (SCP) for cloud-based resources to prevent users or roles, organization wide, from being able to access specific services or take specific actions within services. For example, the SCP can be used to restrict users from being able to delete logs, update virtual private cloud (VPC) configurations, and change log configurations.

When you're ready to require Duo authentication for all users of the target Windows system, change the "New User Policy" to "Deny access" and change the "Authentication Policy" to "Enforce 2FA". This will prompt all enrolled users to perform Duo 2FA after they type in their usernames and passwords, and prevent users who have not enrolled in Duo from logging in without 2FA.

Check the Only allow offline login from users in certain groups to specify a group or groups of Duo users permitted to use offline access. Users who are not members of the groups you select here won't be able to enroll in offline access or login in with MFA when the Windows system is unable to contact Duo, and instead are subject to your fail mode configuration (let in without MFA if you enabled fail open, or prevented from logging in if you disabled fail open).

You may have Windows systems where no users should log in using offline access, regardless of the application setting in the Duo Admin Panel. To prevent offline authentication for any user on a given Windows client, use the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) with administrator privileges to create or update the following registry value:

Do not delete the Microsoft RDP application from the Duo Admin Panel until you have uninstalled the Duo application from all Windows systems using that application. If you delete the Admin Panel application before uninstalling the Duo software you may block users from logging in to Windows.

Many organizations use a hardware firewall and proxy server that can prevent software from accessing an outside server. A hardware solution applies to all computers within the corporate network. Most home networks do not use hardware firewall or proxy technology.

There are two modes in terminal server, Execute and Install. By default all users are logged on in Execute mode and this means they can run programs etc. When you want to install an Application for use by everyone the Administrator should change to Install mode.

In some cases, you might want to prevent users from installing the software in Windows 10, such as when you manage company computers or if you don't want your children playing around your computer. There are some third-party tools on the web that can help block software installation, and the following two methods also can help.

As we all know, administrator permissions are required to install software programs in Windows 10, so the quick way to prevent others from installing software on your computer is by using standard accounts. You can set a password for the administrator account and don't share the password with others, and create a standard user account without a password. In this way, other people wanting to use your computer will log on using the standard user account and they won't be able to install software without the administrator password.

Step 4: Select Enabled, and select an option from the drop-down menu under "Disable Windows Installer", and then click on Apply followed by OK. This policy setting is not configured by default, and if you enabled it, you can prevent users from installing software on your Windows 10. 589ccfa754
