Within the QESST @ UNM ERC we visited the New Mexico School of the Deaf to talk about solar energy to 25 middle school children at this boarding school for K12 children from around the state. The kids had ton of fun building and testing solar cars and experimenting with solar panels!
Thanks QESST and NMSD!
We partnered with the NASCENT@ UNM to bring a hands-on nanoscience experience to 25 middle school kids at the New Mexico School of the Deaf. They learned about photolithography, 2D materials, hydrogels, clean rooms, and more. Thanks NASCENT and NMSD!
Fabian Lopez and Adreana Porrales (two high-school students from the South Valley Academy, in Albuquerque) tested different materials to create Christmas ornaments inspired to crystalline unit cells. This project is part of our initiative to increase exposure of underrepresented groups in STEM within our NSF funded research on order-from-disorder transitions in complex oxides. The project is a partnership with the Wisconsin MRSEC
We partnered with the Explora Science Center and Children's Museum in Old Town Albuquerque to create "Nano In Reach", a traveling experiential exhibit that brings nanotechnology and nonscientists to community libraries, schools, outdoor markets, and science fairs. The work is funded by our NSF CAREER award. Below are a few pictures of an event we held at the Corrales Community LIbrary on December 17, 2022.
