Ciprian Jeler (Principal Investigator) is a researcher at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (Department of Social Sciences and Humanities) of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi. He has received his PhD in Philosophy at the “Charles de Gaulle” University of Lille 3 and the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi for a thesis on Henri Bergson’s theory of action. While still dedicating some of his time to contemporary continental philosophy, during the past few years, his research has been mainly focused on issues in (analytic) philosophy of biology, and especially on multilevel selection theory and on the main notions that undergird modern philosophical conceptualizations of natural selection. He has published articles in journal such as Biology & Philosophy, History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, Biological Theory, Acta Biotheoretica and Human Studies.
Dr. Andreea Eșanu (Postdoctoral Reseacrher) has a PhD in philosophy from the University of Bucharest (2010). Her main interests concern the (general) philosophy of science and the philosophy of biology, various topics in the history of philosophy of science, and several topics in epistemology and early analytic philosophy. Between 2010 and 2013 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bucharest, with a research project in the philosophy of biology. Between 2017 and 2020 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the „Alexandru Dragomir” Institute of Philosophy, with a historical research in the 19th century philosophy of science (Comte, Mill, Brentano). Other fellowships: New Europe College – Institute for Advanced study (2015-2016) and The European Association for the Philosophy of Science (June 2018). Currently she is working on historical developments of the concept of natural selection in the late 20th century in the philosophy of biology.
Mihail-Valentin Cernea (Postdoctoral Researcher) teaches philosophy, ethics and social psychology at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and is a member of the Research Center in Applied Ethics at the University of Bucharest. His research interests include philosophy of science (focusing on biology and the social sciences), applied ethics (including business ethics and just war theory) and the relationship between philosophy and pop culture. He has published papers in the philosophy of biology (focusing on the group selection controversy that has emerged and re-emerged in the history of biology), the ethics of autonomous weapon systems, and business ethics (moral enhancement in management and Big Data ethics).
