Sailing on San Francisco Bay, 1995
I'm sitting in the Land Rover in Botswana waiting for the next flight to arrive. Look at that sky! The plane lands, makes a lot of dust, doesn't hit any animals wandering across the runway. It's a good day. Now we have the afternoon for Gin and Tonic (it's a Commonwealth country) before night falls and the leopards come out. (1995)
Team Calypso 1993, Autodesk. That's me dead center with glaring glasses behind the pretty woman. That project was really, really weird. See the guy in the very back with a hat on? That's Tim Scully, THE Tim Scully, the King of LSD. What a tale that is.

My brothers insisted that I sit down for this photo because I'm taller than them. But I own the photo-editor.

Two of my brothers. We have become old geezers.
I was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1955 while my dad was on assignment for the US Army. Six weeks later I was on a plane headed to Denver, Colorado. My older brother was born in Salzburg, too, and my younger twin brothers were born 3 years after me at Ft. Benning, Geogia. No sisters.
I learned drafting in high school and put myself through college working for land surveyors and civil engineers. Along the way I got involved with AutoCAD, eventually landing a job with Autodesk in Sausalito. Those were great days -- halcyon days -- my friends used the word "magical" to describe those times.
Then I went to culinary school and started a career in the kitchen. It was hard, and 9/11 made it harder. I'm not sure the hospitality business has ever fully recovered from that trauma.
