Blackston's Fish Owl
Blakiston’s Fish Owl. A beautiful and powerful creature. They are native to Japan and the largest species of owl. Unfortunately their habitats are diminishing due to human expansion and infrastructure along rivers. Their population is now under 1,500 globally.
The rocks are textured in this piece and the water has a reflective paint that changes to have more pink hues as you look at it in different angles under light.

In this painting, I played a little with texture, first making a base with modeling paste and then painting acrylics over it. This is my second large animal portrait painting. I am really enjoying this journey and learning something with every piece I create

Almond Blossoms
This one is painted on a shoji screen door frame that I stretched canvas over. We had just moved to a new house and there was an extra frame so I decided to recreate a part of one of my favorite Van Gogh pieces for my living room.
