Directions

When planning your trip, please consider that Gargnano is a small town, and connections are not so frequent. Below we provide some directions to help organizing your visit.

How to reach Gargnano

Directly by car

• From North: from the Brennero highway (A22), exit "Rovereto Sud", follow indications to Riva del Garda and from there go along the road "SS 45bis - Gardesana Occidentale", direction South (45 km).

• From South: from the Milano-Venezia highway (A4), exit "Brescia Est" or "Desenzano", follow indications to Salo' and from there go along the road "SS 45bis - Gardesana Occidentale", direction North (30 km).

Directly by train

Sorry, no railway there!

Directly by bus

You can reach Gargnano by public bus leaving from Brescia railway station, Desenzano railway station or Rovereto railway station. For more information on these routes, or other possible options, please refer to the journey planner available on the Regione Lombardia website.

All these starting points for bus rides can be reached by Metro or by train from the airports listed below.

If you fly to Milan - Bergamo Airport

You can take a bus from the airport to Brescia railway station (1 hour, approx), and then a bus to Gargnano (see the journey planner available on the Regione Lombardia website)

If you fly to Milano Malpensa Airport

• By bus (several connections, see website) to Milano, Central railway station.

• If you want to proceed to Brescia or Desenzano by train, look for trains to Brescia > Verona > Venezia.

• By train (Malpensa Express, see website) to Milano Cadorna and Milano Centrale railway station.

• If you want to go to the Central railway station from Cadorna (in order to proceed by train to Brescia or Desenzano), take the Metro line n.2 "green", direction "Cologno/Gessate", and get down at "Centrale F.S." stop.

If you fly to Milano Linate Airport

There is a public bus service connecting Linate airport with Centrale train station in 25 minutes, several connections everyday.

Milano Metro

You can buy Metro tickets from the newspaper vendors at any Metro stop. Here is the Milano metro map.

If you fly to minor airports

• From Verona airport (Marco Valerio Catullo) to Verona Porta Nuova railway station, by bus (APTV).

• From Venezia airport (Marco Polo) to Venezia Santa Lucia railway station (piazzale Roma), either by ATVO shuttle bus in 20 minutes (see website) or by ACTV line bus n.5 in 30 minutes (see website), or from the same airport to Mestre railway station either by ATVO shuttle bus or by ACTV line bus n.15.

Verona and Venezia are frequently connected by train to Desenzano and Brescia (trains from Venezia to Mestre > Verona > Desenzano > Brescia > Milano).

Directly by boat:

If you feel romantic and you are not in a hurry, you can consider reaching Gargnano by boat, from any of the towns around the lake, for instance Riva del Garda (north) or Desenzano (south). See timetables here.

Accommodation

CatAlg2018 will take place in Palazzo Feltrinelli, a historical building now belonging to the University of Milan. Besides the conference sessions, lunches will be served here in the internal restaurant of Palazzo Feltrinelli.

Gargnano is a touristic little town, so that one can find a wide range of hotels. In the past editions, for instance, some participants found accommodation at Hotel Palazzina (***), Hotel Garni Bartabel (***), Hotel Garni Riviera (**), Hotel Tiziana (**).

Participants whose accommodation is not arranged by the organizers, should make their reservations directly with the hotel or via booking.com or other similar websites.
