About the Preschool

Who We Are: We are a community-run preschool operating out of South Shore Elementary School in Regina Beach, SK.

Fundraising: The preschool participates in annual fundraising. Parents are required to participate in the fundraiser(s). Please see the "Fundraising" tab for more information.

Volunteering: The preschool relies on parent or family volunteers to provide assistance in the classroom. Volunteers are required to rotate through the Volunteer helper schedule, and submit a recent criminal record and vulnerable sector check by October 1st of the school year.

Class Times: We offer two cohorts of preschool classes:

Class Dates: Preschool starts in mid-September and runs until mid-June. Class dates follow the Prairie Valley School Division school calendar. As we share the Kindergarten classroom at South Shore Elementary School, we are scheduled opposite days of the Kindergarten class. Kindergarten class days are usually odd days, and we are even days on the six-day cycle. Preschool is scheduled twice a week, even if there are three even days in a given school week. Parents are given a schedule of the preschool dates for the year by mid- to end of August.

If you are curious what a typical school year looks like in Prairie Valley School Division, you can access their six-day cycle calendar at: https://www.pvsd.ca/Schools/SchoolCalendar/Pages/default.aspx#/=

Age of Students: Students must be three by December 31st of the year they hope to register.

Goal of Preschool: Preschool provides an excellent opportunity to prepare your child for Kindergarten. It is our goal to have each child gain confidence, a positive sense of self, and knowledge that his/her contribution and participation in our classroom activities is valuable. We want students to have fun while learning new and exciting things through play, listening, and observation. Lastly, we hope that each child will gain additional social, educational, physical, and emotional skills that will prepare him/her for the future.

What is Learned: Our days at preschool are divided into segments which will provide routine and predictability. Throughout the year, the learning will include: free and independent play, colours, letters and numbers, shapes, days, months, weather, name recognition, waiting, music, sharing, movement, hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, listening, crafting, questioning, and exploring. Students gain knowledge of the school and community through field trips, interaction with South Shore staff and students, and classroom guests.

Board of Directors: The Board of Directors is always looking for new volunteers. The board meets once a month, but not during the summer. If you'd like to volunteer with less of a time commitment, consider joining a subcommittee instead. You will work towards a particular project such as fundraising, communications, etc. Please indicate your interest in the volunteer positions on the Registration form.

Registration and Fees: Please complete the online registration form in full under the "Registration" tab. Registration is not complete until the registration fee is paid. Placement is not guaranteed, as numbers are limited, all registrations will be  reviewed by the board and acceptance confirmed to best meet the needs of the community.
