Castle Point Rowing Club is a small, community‑driven coastal rowing club set on the Castlepoint peninsula of New Zealand’s Wairarapa coast. Its home is one of the country’s most striking seaside landscapes — a long, sweeping beach, rugged limestone cliffs, and the iconic Castlepoint Lighthouse watching over the bay. Our club’s identity is shaped by this environment: open water, changing tides, and a coastline that rewards skill, teamwork, and respect for the sea.

Coastal rowing focus — Members train on the open ocean rather than sheltered rivers, building strength and technique in real coastal conditions. The surf, swell, and wind patterns around Castlepoint make every outing different.
A tight-knit community — The club brings together locals, weekend visitors, and families who share a love of the water. It’s as much a social hub as a sporting one.
A unique training ground — Launching from the beach gives rowers direct access to the lagoon, the reef, and the open Pacific. The peninsula creates natural routes for both beginners and experienced rowers. no building, no boats, rowers.
Connection to place — The club’s culture is deeply tied to Castlepoint’s natural beauty. Sunrise rows, wildlife sightings, and the sound of waves against the hull are part of the everyday rhythm.

Rowing Locations:
At our rowing club, we are passionate about coastal rowing, a thrilling and dynamic discipline that takes place on the open sea and along the Castle Point coastlines. Unlike traditional flat-water rowing, coastal rowing involves navigating waves, tides, and varying conditions, which makes it both challenging and exhilarating. We use specialised coastal rowing boats, designed for stability, durability, and performance in rough waters, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for rowers of all skill levels.We take part in a variety of regattas, but primarily take part in Beach Sprint regattas.

Monday–Friday: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Saturday: 6:30 AM – 11:00 PM
Sunday: Closed
