Introduction to Equations

This resource contains scaffolded notes, worksheets, pair activity and answer keys.

Students learn and understand the concept of equations by completing:

• The Balancing Scales pages: they do the same action to both sides of scales to balance the scales. Also complete the diagrams. (Estimated lesson time: 45 minutes)

• Balancing New Equations pages: they perform the given operations on the initial equations to make new balanced equations. (Estimated lesson time: 45 minutes)

• Pair Activity where they make their own equations and perform some operations on their equations to make new equations. (Estimated lesson time: 45 minutes)

Grades: 5th to 7th
