New friends, teachers, coaches, opportunities, and even temptations. Starting out high school, I felt overwhelmed and lost. Just the thought of high school made me nauseous. Change has never been easy for me. Eventually, I embraced change and adjusted to high school. It helped me find who I am and what I enjoy. I have formed many new relationships, and it makes me sad to finish high school in a few months.
Family
I have four older brothers and no sisters. Everyone always asks me what it's like growing up with so many brothers, but honestly I can’t say I remember a lot due to the age difference. My brother Kyle and I are five and a half years apart. When I was graduating from 8th grade, Kyle was graduating from college. I always wonder what it would have been like if my siblings were closer in age to me, or even if I would have had a sister. Over time, I have grown close to my mom, Deb. She has been there for me in so many ways. Anytime I am super busy or forget something, she is always there to help me. She is definitely my super hero. Even when I become upset or sad, she always finds a way to put a smile on my face.
Involvement
During my time in high school, I was forced to break out of my shell. In the beginning, I had no idea what clubs to join, but with the help of some upperclassmen I eventually picked the right ones that suit my interests. I have taken on several leadership roles such as becoming an FCCLA historian, SADD Stuco Representative, and I am a part of the Student Council. One of my favorite memories was a burrito lock-in. This fundraiser entails selling and making hundreds of burritoes. We make those burritos at the school one evening. After making the burritos, we play games and spend the night inside the school.
Development
Throughout high school, I learned how drastically my grades can dictate my future. My freshman year, I didn’t quite catch onto that concept. I was used to teachers babying me on every assignment and being with the same people in every class, but now I was on my own. Since my first year, I have worked hard to fix my mistakes. I brought my GPA up substantially . I realize now how much impact a GPA can have on eligibility for colleges, scholarships, and even certain jobs. Since bringing my GPA up, I haven’t had problems getting these things now. I try my best to study or work on homework for as long as neccesary to receive the grade I deserve. My strong work ethic has grown tremendously over the past couple of years, and I believe that I am more prepared for college than ever before.
I plan to attend Kansas State University to further my education in business and eventually obtain a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduating from college, I see myself working in the accounting field for a while. I plan to work in an office setting to gain more knowledge about running a successful business. Ten years from now, I hope to have saved up money from working in the accounting field. My hope is to have gained the money and tools necessary to take a leap and gradually start up and open my own business. Opening my own business might be something I would do on the side while continuing to work at a job until I have the financial freedom to go out on my own completely.
Two things I enjoy doing in my free time are listening to music and cleaning. I am such a neat freak at times. If my friends come over for a sleepover and make a mess, I must clean it up the second they leave. If my things are not organized or I forget to do something, I feel like my whole day is messed up. Plus I also listen to music every time I possibly can. Personally, I believe it helps me stay focused on the task at hand. It helps ease my stress and sometimes even bring out creative ideas.
