If I think back on my life as a youngster, I can vividly remember a story that best describes me. When I first moved to Seneca in kindergarten, I would go to work with my dad on the weekends and in the summer. He worked at the golf course, and I would sit on the counter and talk to everyone that would come into the clubhouse. One day, there were out-of-state golfers that came to play the course. My dad was in his back office, and I was happily managing the counter when they came in. I immediately asked them where they were from and how they were doing. They looked at me with a confused and blank stare and never responded to my question, so I went and got my dad from the back. They immediately smiled and said I must be his daughter and ended up enjoying my company. They told my dad that I was the most outgoing child they had ever met and ended up giving me a tip. My dad and I have always been very close.
I come from a family of four, and I have a little brother who’s 5 years younger than me. Growing up, I was always super close with my family, but my grandma Judy and aunt Kristi were always my closest relatives. I would go mini-golfing, go swimming, and play Mario Kart with my aunt when she lived with my grandparents. When she moved out it made me very sad, but I was always excited when she came home. She was always the best influence for me, and that’s why I think we were so close. They always supported me in all of my sports and decisions so that I could grow as an individual.
From my families support, I have become a strong, successful, and independent woman. In high school, I always try to be a hardworking student and a straight A student. Alongside my schoolwork, I am highly involved in our student body as well. I am a varsity athlete in volleyball, basketball, and golf and have participated in all three for my whole high school career. I have made state appearances in all of them and hope to graduate as a state-champion. I am also involved in many clubs and organizations. I am vice president of SADD, a member of FCCLA, a senior class representative for STUCO, and a member of NHS. I think staying involved with my peers connects me with the rest of the school that I would not usually associate with.
After high school, I plan to attend Kansas State University and major in Architecture and Design. I have always considered myself a creative thinker and love to make things so I decided that this was the correct career path for me. I visited Kansas State University and loved every aspect of the school. I met my professors and got a tour of the amazing Regnier Hall, which is the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design. It had dozens of studios and building labs with technology that I can’t wait to use. One of my favorite parts of the building was the basement. In the basement, it has a welding lab, a wood lab, a 3D printing lab, as well as a walkout access to a private outdoor study area for the architecture students. The extremely nice staff made me feel at home and I could not be more excited to attend next year. Following college, I want to use my degree and have my own company. I want to design new structures, furniture, or shoes to make my living as my own boss. I plan to do everything in my power to make my dream come true.
