In 2019, A New York State Dental Journal found that 70% of toothbrushes are contaminated with bacteria found in fecal matter due to the flushes of bathroom toilets. After flushing a toilet, small droplets and aerosol-containing bacteria can float up to 5 feet in the air and remain airborne for 20 seconds, which is enough to potentially land on a toothbrush, contaminating it, and increase the risk of illness.
With this project, we want to create a product that will help decrease the accumulation of bacteria on toothbrushes due to toilet flushes. The main goal for this product is to make it simple to use and make sure that the product can be easily portable and adaptable.
About Us:
My name is Ilyanna Bocanegra, and I am currently a senior at Chapin High School in El Paso, Texas, where I'm enrolled in the Magnet Program. I will be graduating this June and afterwards, I plan on attending Texas Tech in the fall of 2023, where I will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. I used to be really interested in engineering, but through the magnet program learned that it wasn't for me. In my spare time, I love hanging with friends, or at home in bed watching my favorite shows.
