Born and raised in Natick, Massachusetts, Casey Chan-Smutko always had a passion for writing. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in English

As a writer, she previously worked for the Good 5 Cent Cigar and interned for Rebel Girls as a Content Writer. As a journalist, she specializes in print writing but has branched out in broadcast, producing newscast packages, covering politics. 

Her work has been featured on the Good 5 Cent Cigar Instagram and the ONA23 student newsroom website.

In August 2023, Casey attended an ONA conference where she published articles for the student newsroom website.
