Please read carefully. Car VIN is an information tool. The vehicle data it shows comes from public sources and may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate. It is not a substitute for an official vehicle-history report, a professional inspection, or the manufacturer's own records. Do not rely on Car VIN as your sole basis for buying, selling, driving, insuring, or making any safety, financial, or legal decision. By using the app you accept these Terms and the disclaimers and limitations of liability below.
Acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Service are a binding agreement between you and the developer of Car VIN ("Car VIN", "the app", "we", "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the app you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app and delete it.
About Car VIN
Car VIN is an independent iOS application that decodes Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) and looks up related information such as specifications, open safety recalls, crash-test ratings, owner complaints, and fuel-economy estimates from public government and reference sources. It runs on your device, keeps your data on your device, and requires no account.
Eligibility and age
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA and the UK, or the minimum age required in your country). Minors may use the app only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms.
Licence grant and restrictions
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use one copy of Car VIN on Apple devices you own or control, for personal or internal business use. You agree not to copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, rent, lease, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app; not to remove proprietary notices; not to use it to build a competing product or to scrape, resell, or redistribute the data it displays; and not to use it in any way that violates law or the rights of others.
Important vehicle-data disclaimer
Car VIN aggregates data from third-party public sources including NHTSA (vPIC, Recalls, SafetyRatings, Complaints), FuelEconomy.gov, Wikipedia, Wikidata, and regional authorities (DVSA, Transport Canada, the EU Safety Gate, the ACCC, the NICB). We do not create, verify, or guarantee this data. It may be incomplete, delayed, outdated, mismatched to your specific vehicle, or wrong. A result of "no recalls", a safety rating, a specification, or any calculator estimate is informational only and is not a certification of a vehicle's condition, safety, title status, mileage, value, or history. You must independently verify any information that matters to you with the manufacturer, a licensed mechanic, an official vehicle-history provider, and the relevant authority before relying on it. Car VIN's loan, fuel-cost, and depreciation calculators are simplified estimates and are not financial advice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for any decision you make, or loss you suffer, based on information shown in the app.
The service and changes
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time without notice. Some features depend on third-party services and connectivity we do not control. You are responsible for your own backups. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the app or any feature.
Subscriptions, purchases and billing
Car VIN is free to download and use for its core features. An optional Car VIN Pro membership unlocks premium features, offered as an auto-renewable subscription (billed monthly or yearly) and as a one-time lifetime purchase. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store; payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A free trial, where offered, automatically converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. A subscription renews automatically for the same period and at the then-current price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings, then [your name], then Subscriptions; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Prices are shown in your local currency and may vary by region. Refunds are handled solely by Apple under the App Store terms.
Your content and data
Any VINs, notes, tags, and photos you enter belong to you and are stored only on your device. We do not access, host, or back up this content and provide no recovery service. You are solely responsible for the content you enter and for having the right to use it.
Acceptable use
You agree to use Car VIN lawfully. You must not use it to violate anyone's rights, to investigate vehicles in a manner prohibited by law, to harass or defraud, to circumvent technical protections, or to overload the third-party services it relies on.
Intellectual property
Car VIN, including its software, design, interface, name, and logo, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. The underlying vehicle data belongs to its sources. If you send feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use them without obligation to you.
Third-party materials and links
The app displays data from, and links to, third-party services we do not control. We provide these for convenience and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or practices; your use of them is governed by their own terms.
Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", with all faults and without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app or its data will be accurate, complete, current, reliable, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that defects will be corrected.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, vehicles, or other intangible losses. In particular, we are not liable for any personal injury, property damage, or financial loss resulting from a purchase, sale, repair, driving, insurance, or safety decision made in reliance on information shown in Car VIN. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the app will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us (through Apple) in the twelve months before the claim, or ten US dollars (US $10). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless us and our licensors from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use or misuse of the app, your content, or your violation of these Terms or any law or third-party right.
Term and termination
These Terms apply while you use the app. Your licence terminates automatically if you breach them. You may terminate at any time by deleting the app. The disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, intellectual-property, and governing-law provisions survive termination.
Apple-specific terms
These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and no warranty obligation; any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure of the app to conform to any warranty are our responsibility, not Apple's. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product-liability, legal, regulatory, or intellectual-property claims. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US-government embargo and are not on a prohibited-parties list. You must comply with the App Store Terms of Service and Apple's standard Licensed Application EULA at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date and post the new version at this URL. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer of Car VIN is established, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to first try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us. Any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the laws of your country continue to apply and are not limited by this clause.
Miscellaneous
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the app and supersede any prior agreement. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may. Headings are for convenience only. The English version of these Terms controls.
