There are many reasons that someone may prefer to wear contact lenses in addition to glasses to correct their vision. In addition to the look and convenience of going "glasses-free", individuals with astigmatism or a high prescription may experience a better correction of their vision with the use of contact lenses than with glasses alone. Surprisingly, it is even possible to replace bifocal lenses with contacts!
If you are interested in wearing contact lenses, our office can help to support you.
Below are the most common contact lenses that we recommend in our office:
Soft lenses
Gas permeable lenses
Multifocal lenses
Color contact lenses
Silicone hydrogels
Daily contact lenses
Before you're fitted for contact lenses, Dr. Carter strongly recommends having a current, comfortable pair of glasses. This ensures that you can still see clearly and comfortably in case of irritation, infection, or on days when your eyes need a break.
During your first contact lens appointment, Dr. Carter will take measurements to determine the proper contact lens size for your eyes. You’ll be given a pair of trial lenses to wear for about one week in order to evaluate comfort, clarity, and fit. Dr. Carter and his staff will teach you how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses properly.
You will return to our office about one week after your initial fitting for a follow-up visit. During this appointment, Dr. Carter will verify that your trial lenses are fitting well and providing clear vision. If the trial lenses worked well for you, you will receive your contact lens prescription and will be able to order a supply of contacts at this time. If the trial lenses aren't working well, Dr. Carter will discuss further options with you.
