Processor: A compatible 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU (amd64) that has 1-2 cores and 1Ghz speed
RAM: 2 GB minimum, but 4 GB+ is best for better use
Storage: At least 15 GB of space
Graphics: Good enough to support Windows 10
USB drive: One big enough to fit the CarterOS ISO
CarterOS only supports 64-bit (amd64) PCs only. That means no 32-bit systems, or ARM64 systems, not on your old OLD computers and phone-like computers.
Remember: Back up your important files before installing. Playing around with operating systems is fun, but losing your files definitely isn't.
CarterOS is a Debian-based fan-made Linux project, built by Azulium. CarterPCs did not actually make a Linux Distro ofc. He does not even use linux....
Before you start: Back up your important files. Installing an operating system can erase data, so make sure anything you care about is safe. That is, if you are installing this on real hardware or your main pc.
Go to the CarterOS download page on Internet Archive and download the ISO file.
Make sure you have enough space and good but not mcdonalds wifi. The ISO is quite large actually wow... 4.1GB? oh my....
You'll need a USB drive with 8GB for the ISO. SD cards and other storage works well as long as you can boot from said media
Download a tool to flash the image ontp a USB, such as Rufus or balenaEtcher. They are avaliable on macOS Windows. (Rufus only supports windows)
Select your USB drive.
Choose the CarterOS ISO you downloaded.
Start writing the image and wait for it to finish. (In Rufus, select DD Mode.)
This thing or idk erases the USB drive. Double-check that you've selected the correct one before starting. (if not ur cooked.)
Once your USB is ready:
Leave the USB plugged in and restart your computer.
Open your computer's boot menu. The key varies by manufacturer.
Select your USB drive.
Wait for CarterOS to boot.
If everything goes well, you'll arrive at the CarterOS desktop!
Find and open the "Install CarterOS" on the desktop.
js follow the instructions (im too lazy to write formally)
Continue when you're sure you've selected the correct installation target and understand that EVERYTHING WILL BE GONE on that hard drive. (unless u dualboot)
Wait for the installer to finish. Depending on your computer it will either be slow or fast,
If it reports an error, don't assume the installation succeeded. Check the error. Also we have a google forms to fix bug fixes in future updates!
When installation finishes with no errors, good for u. Restart your computer and remove the USB when you finally boot into the desktop.
Your computer should boot into your new "CarterPC" that sucks actually. idk what to say but congrats!
We have a Google Form to fix bugs that we will fix in later updates. Link is here.
One last reminder: CarterOS currently supports 64-bit systems (64-bit Intel and AMD PCs) only. It is fanmade. not actually by CarterPCs.
