About Me
Growing up in Seneca, Kansas has been something that I will remember and treasure throughout my entire life. The friendships that I have built with my peers and family friends are amazing bonds that will help guide my future. My family moved to Seneca when I was five years old, and in pre-school, my mother went back to school, and we lived with my grandparents here in Seneca. We moved back to Kansas City for a few years and realized that we enjoyed the time that we spent here and permanently moved here when I was in third grade. I live with my parents, Andrea, and Heath. I have three sisters: Marley, Presley, and Sawyer. Marley and Presley and I were born very close together. My mom always tells us stories about how she had three of us in diapers at one time. When Presley was born, I was not yet three years old so you can imagine the terror in my parents’ eyes with daycare costs and noise. My mother has a very extended and large family with many uncles and aunts and cousins. My uncle Ryan is very special to me. We text and call each other regularly and I find myself looking to him for guidance in sports, education, and life. He played college sports and struggled with Reading and English like I do. He is easy to talk to about expectations and goals. I truly feel that my bond with him is special.
I truly enjoy sports, and they consume my daily thoughts and attitude. I do enjoy math and science but don’t always apply myself to my abilities. My teachers have told me this and I am working on getting better. Over the past four years, I have been involved in many sports and club which include basketball, cross-country, golf, and track, student council, FBLA, and SADD. I have played recreational travel basketball since I was nine years old and have a strong desire to play in college. I spend weekends, nights, and countless hours in the gym crafting my skills on the court. These actions are helping me to ensure getting into a college that can not only advance me educationally, but athletically.
Over the summer I attended an agility camp in Lawrence, Kansas to improve my vertical, strength, and agility. Watching athletes train in their sport to build muscle and flexibility has been interesting to me. I plan to pursue a degree in Athletic Training with an emphasis in Sports and Conditioning for coaching at a college level. The passion that I have for sports will help guide me educationally and professionally in my career path by developing connections with coaches, trainers, and athletes.
If I won a million dollars today, I would build a large indoor gym for Seneca. This arena would include batting cages, basketball courts, an indoor fitness center, and a turf area for indoor soccer and football. This would help young children in our community to stay active and decrease the use of electronics. Michael Jordan once said, “I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career, I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over in my life. And that is why I succeed.” This is my favorite quote. It has been hard to “forget my last shot” in basketball. I can beat myself up over not scoring the bucket to win the game, doing well on an exam, or not finishing a project the way I thought I should, but realizing that no is perfect is a way to reflect that thing will be okay. I must push myself to do better, be better, and to define what I will be in life. Sometimes it is hard to know what that is, but accepting change is half the process.
