Brave is a relatively easy browser to set up. Its interface will be very familiar to longtime Chrome users, as it is based on Chromium code, with a nearly identical interface. To install it, visit brave.com and click one of the download buttons posted all over the site. When it is installed, the window will look like this screenshot on the left. In the bookmark bar, you will see a link telling you to import your bookmarks (this may also be in a pop-up on the new tab page). Clicking on this link takes you to the settings panel, where there is a menu of data to import. Select the categories that you want to import and use the dropdown menu to select where you want to import from. When you are ready, click 'Import'. You will see your bookmarks from your Chrome or other browser pop up in the bookmarks bar. If you chose to import extensions, you will see those too.
Your data has now been transferred into Brave. After this point, you can delete Chrome. The next step is to customize your settings. Start in the 'Appearance' section (see image 3). This panel allows you to change how the browser looks. I recommend hiding the Rewards icon, as it only serves to enable sketchy crypto stuff that you don't need. When you are done with this, go into Privacy and Security. Disable product analytics and usage pings, as these will send personal data to Brave and are unnecessary. If you use Chromecast regularly, you should enter Extensions and enable 'Media Router'. This setting allows Brave to cast tabs using Chromecast.
Like many private browsers, Brave offers a choice of default search engines. It is automatically set to Brave Search, but this is a bad search engine that produces few useful results. To change this, go to Search Engine and click on the dropdown menu. If your favorite search engine is not on the list, click on 'Manage search engines' and press add. You will be instructed to enter the site's query URL, with the query replaced with a percent symbol. You can then set this as the default search engine.
Congratulations! Your browser is now set up and ready to use. For more information about Brave, or to install the browser, go to www.brave.com.
