Carson's Chapel was founded on June 18th, 1853, at the ford of the creek, above William Carson's Home. It was later named Mary's Chapel Methodist Evangelist Church in memory of Mary McDowell Carson, one of its first members. After the original church was burnt down, the present location was built and held its first service in October 1953. The Carson's Chapel cemetery is still kept on the opposite side of Lake Tahoma Road, Hwy 80.
The hands from members of the church, past and present, visitors and campers, have contributed to the beauty of what now stands as Carson's Chapel in the valley near the banks of Buck Creek on Tom's Creek Road, McDowell County, Marion, NC.
