Reading Tips for Parents: Reading with Family Improves Achievement
Research shows that children who read at home with their families do better in school.  To help your child develop reading skills:
-  Keep reading materials handy: magazines, books, and newspapers.
-  Have your child read aloud. Take turns reading and discuss the reading together.
-  Talk about books: the plot, characters, and your child's reactions to them. 
- Tell stories.  Be creative and pretend.  Choose topics your child can relate to.
-  Point out words everywhere you go: signs and food packages.
- Set a good example by reading yourself every day.
