Privacy Policy

Introduction

This privacy policy discloses the privacy practices for CarPros. This privacy policy applies solely to information collected by this application and the choices you can make about the way information is collected and used. This policy notifies you of the following:

User Information

When you create an account in CarPros application, we may collect information including a username, a password, and your email address for user account registration purpose. The user account is authenticated and managed by CarPros server. The user's email is used to retrieve username and reset password. Also as an account gets created, all the user data gets synchronized with the server. The synchronization includes all car profile data, all fuel logs data, all service/maintenance logs data, all your notes, and the account settings. Logging into your CarPros account will automatically sync your locally stored data with CarPros server.

Camera and Gallery

Camera and gallery permissions are requested to create an optional user profile picture, to pick optional Dashboard background images, and to post images to community page, and these permissions are not required for the app to function. The user profile picture gets uploaded to CarPros server, and only one picture per account gets saved in the server. So when replacing a user profile picture, the old picture gets replaced by the new one, and the old one gets destroyed. If the user is not logged into a CarPros account, the user profile picture is never uploaded to anywhere.

Location

We will not gather or use the specific location of your mobile device (by using, for example, GPS or Network) without first getting your explicit permission. User location is requested when creating a fuel log to automatically detect the nearest gas station so that the user does not need to enter the gas station name to the log. Another use case for requesting location is to calculate traveling speed so that the OBD2 speed command can be replaced with speed from GPS in order to improve OBD2 refresh rate. Location latitude and longitude are part of a fuel log information, so if location is permitted, those are stored in CarPros server as a backup, however location data is never shared with any third parties but kept private.

OBD2 Data Sampling

By pressing "send logs to developer" button in OBD2 status card, the user can send the CarPros developers a small amount of sampled OBD2 data to CarPros server for debugging purpose. The data includes a small subset of car profile information including vehicle make, model, year, OBD2 settings, and OBD2 response data for each PID command pulled from the ECU. This information is inspected by CarPros developers only and never shared with any third parties.

Your Options

  • You do not need to create an account to use CarPros. All data is stored locally on your device and never uploaded anywhere unless you create a CarPros account. CarPros accounts are only used for data backup purpose, and any information is never shared with any third parties. All your data including offline data can be exported to csv files.
  • You do not need to press "send logs to developer" button in OBD2 status card if sharing your car profile information with developers is not desired.
  • You do not need to set an user profile picture to use the application.
  • You do not need to grant location permission if you don't want to use any of location features, which are described in "Information Collection and Use" above, in the application.

Security

CarPros is a note application for cars. Anybody can open the application and view the contents without having to authenticate first. Therefore, we recommend not saving any sensitive data in CarPros such as credit card number or any passwords. Due to the nature of the application, all your information stored on your device is not encrypted by the application. If you need an extra layer of protection for your data, you would need to encrypt your device. When syncing with the server, all data transmitted out from your device is encrypted and delivered to us in a secure way.
