Meet Ms. Carol 🌻

My name is Ms. Carol, and I am excited to be part of your child's learning journey this year. Education has been a big part of my life for many years. Before coming to Scholar Academy, I spent eight years volunteering in my children's elementary school classrooms, helping teachers and supporting students. Those experiences helped me discover how much I loved working with kids and being part of their learning.

I have been at Scholar Academy for seven years, and this year will be my eighth year here. Since my very first day at Scholar, I have been part of the Special Education team. Throughout that time, I have worked closely with students and teachers to help students build skills, gain confidence, and experience success. I especially enjoy working with younger students and helping them build strong academic foundations that will support them throughout their school years.

My journey into special education is also very personal. My son, Caden, has disabilities, and I will always be grateful for the special education teachers who helped him throughout school. Their support made a tremendous difference for our family. After Caden graduated, I wanted to give back by helping other students who may need a little extra support, encouragement, and understanding along the way.

I moved to Tooele 28 years ago when I married my husband, Terry, and we have built our life here ever since. Family is very important to me. We have three wonderful children: Ashley and her husband Tyler, Jessica and her husband Jacob, and our youngest, Caden and his wife Nola. We are also proud grandparents to Luke, Lillian, Blake, Eleanor, and Payton.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know my students and finding creative ways to help them learn. I love watching students grow in confidence and seeing the excitement on their faces when something finally clicks. Those moments make all the hard work worth it!

This year, I will support students through small-group instruction, individualized support, and by working alongside teachers in the general education classroom when needed. My goal is to help students feel successful, capable, and excited about learning.

We have one dog named Tank.

I am a huge hockey fan and love cheering for the Utah Mammoth.

I also love cheering for the University of Utah and watching Utah Gymnastics.

I used to be a gymnast, and the balance beam was my favorite event.

I love reading, especially books by Richard Paul Evans. My favorite series is The Walk.

My View on Special Education 🌻

Special education isn't about focusing on what a student can't do—it's about finding their strengths, building confidence, and helping them reach their goals.

Every child learns differently, and that's okay. My job is to meet students where they are, celebrate their progress, and help them develop the skills they need to be successful both in and out of the classroom. Sometimes that means finding creative ways to teach a skill, providing extra encouragement, or breaking learning into smaller steps. No matter where a student starts, every step forward matters.

I believe that learning should be engaging, positive, and filled with opportunities for success. When students feel supported and believe in themselves, amazing things can happen.

Working Together

I believe students are most successful when families, teachers, and support staff work together as a team. Parents know their children best, and I value the insights, questions, and ideas that families bring to the educational process.

Communication is one of the most important parts of helping students succeed. Whether we are celebrating progress, discussing challenges, or working through concerns, I want families to know they can reach out and that we are all working toward the same goal—helping their child learn, grow, and thrive.

I strive to create positive relationships with students and families built on trust, respect, and collaboration. Together, we can celebrate successes, problem-solve challenges, and support students as they build confidence and independence.

I look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year and celebrating every achievement—big or small—along the way.
