Children of Auschwitz series
Children of Auschwitz series
The Auschwitz Memorial Twitter account (twitter.com/AuschwitzMuseum) shares a daily post featuring the souls born on that day and sent to the concentration camp. Of course, the vast majority were killed in the gas chambers. The stories are all horrifically sad, but for me, the children are the most gut-wrenching.
I see their great potential for life, their joy, their unique souls that never had the opportunity to blossom. I wonder who these children might have become, and how the world might have been bettered by their ongoing presence. I paint their portraits in order to keep them alive and to remind us of the fragility of life.
We are all one family, and these are all our own children. I say their names so that the world will never forget.
