Caroline Schimanski

I obtained a Doctor of Science degree from the Department of Economics at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland in December 2018.

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the Economics Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

Previously, I worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the African Development Bank, was a visiting Postdoctoral Researcher at the NOVAFRICA knowledge center of the Nova School of Business Economics in Portugal, a Labour Force Statistics Officer (short-term P-3) at the International Labour Organization (ILO), and worked for the Poverty and Equity Global Practice of the World Bank, the United Nations University - World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Commission, the NGO Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) and in developed and developing countries in the private sector.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Master of Science in International Business and a Master of Science in Development Economics and Emerging Markets.

My research interests are very broadly defined in applied development economics. Most of my recent work focuses on public finance economics (i.e. taxation and development) and labour economics, but I am also interested in impact evaluations, social protection, poverty, education, agriculture and health topics.
