This is a lesson for 7th graders about adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. It has three steps.
The first step is to watch a KhanAcademy video in EdPuzzle, with questions in the movie, so the teacher can make sure that the students understand everything, or have any questions.
Step two: This is a Gizmos lesson where the students can practice adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.
Step three: is about vocabulary. Students are going to collaborate in groups in a jamboard, and describe and explain some important mathematical expressions within this topic. Each group is going to save their jamboard as a picture, and then upload it to a Padlet site. Here are they going to investigate the other group’s explanations and leave a comment or give a like. I have made illustrations that show how the students save a jamboard and upload it to a padlet.
Reflections
negative numbers can be difficult for many students. In math, there is often an issue that students don’t understand the terms and expressions, or they forget. I, therefore, believe it is important to make sure every student understands the terms, and after working with the content for a little while, we dobbel check for that. The jamboard exercise will show if the students’ don’t know how to explain one term, or who one student don’t understand will perhaps learn from another who do understand. The same can happen in the padlet, we can discuss some good explanations in class, and some students’ can learn the terms from there as well.
Revision
It would be fun and a good exercise to have students' comment on each others pallets using Flipgrid. Then they use other senses than just reading and typing, and everyone would be given a voice. It would also be very useful for me as a teacher to see how every student judge the different explanations the groups will come up with.
