Lesson 2: Language: write a fairytale.
Target level: Middle school.
Aim: Students will write a classic or modern fairytale, and illustrate it in a video.
You will learn the characteristics of a fairytale is, and to write a fairytale yourself. You will work in groups to write, illustrate and tell a fairytale. You will be given an option between creating a classic fairytale or a modern fairytale.
This lesson has five steps:
Step 1: Watch the classic fairytale "Cinderella," and answer the questions in the video. Then watch the modern fairytale "Prince Cinders," and answer the questions in the video.
Step 2: Decide if you want to write a traditional or a modern fairytale. Fill in your name and the type of fairytale you choose in the sheet.
Step 3: Read the article in the link, and complete the tasks as instructed in the article. Be sure to click on the right link, depending on your choice of fairytale type.
Step 4: Write a fairytale!
Step 5: Make a movie where you illustrate and tell your fairytale.

You are going to work in the group that your teacher assigns you to. Use the ideas you shared with each other in the article as inspiration, and create a fairytale that has the typical characteristics for the genre.
Illustrate your fairytale. This can for example be a movie where you are actors, or a cartoon that illustrates the story. Take pictures of your illustrations, and upload them, or your movie, to your computer. Use I-movie to edit your video. I will show you how, in the video below.
