The Junqueira family has a long history of coffee-growing in the Southern part of the state of Minas Gerais that dates back to the late 19th Century.
José Procópio Junqueira acquired the lands that would become Carmo Estate about 75 years ago. At that time, he named the farm 'Nossa Senhora do Carmo' - a praise to a saint to whom his mother was devote. Back in the 1940s, during the harvest, José Procópio used the motor of his jeep to mill the coffee until late at night. His son Tulio Junqueira, who belongs to the fifth generation of coffee growers in the family, inherited and expanded the farm, bringing together tradition and innovation to make Carmo Estate a sustainable farm dedicated to the production of specialty coffees.
