What is Carmichael Studios?

Carmichael Studios is a vibrant and passionate student-run production company at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). It serves as a creative hub, allowing students to explore their interests in film, video production, and digital media. The studio is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where students can gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in various aspects of production, from pre-production planning to post-production editing.

What sets Carmichael Studios apart is its commitment to showcasing student talent and creativity. Students can pitch ideas for projects, setting them up for the film industry! This empowers students not only to hone their technical skills but also to express their artistic visions.

Carmichael Studios also emphasizes the importance of community and teamwork. Students from diverse backgrounds come together to share ideas and support each other’s growth. By participating in the studio, members build valuable connections, learn industry practices, and contribute to a supportive network that extends beyond their time at UNCG.

How Did We Get Started?

Amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Carmichael Studios emerged stronger and more united than ever, thanks to the leadership of Jaylon Steverson and Kayla Mercer, who took on the roles of President and Vice President in January 2022. Our first meeting in February began a journey filled with hope and creativity, even as we started virtually, adhering to safety protocols. We gradually came together in person, gathering about 20 passionate individuals, each eager to share their ideas and rekindle the spark of collaboration. The excitement was palpable as we pitched our creative visions and committed to two film projects, podcasts, and a heartfelt short YouTube video about the Carmichael building. Each moment spent planning and creating became a testament to our resilience and dedication, reminding us that we could transform obstacles into opportunities and recreate the camaraderie we had missed together. Since then, we now have over 100 proud members of Carmichael Studios!
