We purchased the house in November 2021 and began remodeling it shortly after as much of the property and home had fallen into disrepair. While remodeling, we hoped to maintain some of the original character and style of the house while bringing it up to code and more modern standards.
In the large phase of the remodel, which we officially started in July 2022, we maintained much of the original footprint (original to us at least) and replaced all of the septic, plumbing, drywall, windows and much of the framing for the house. (Effectively, the only things we didn’t need to replace was the roof and the adobe!) We expanded the laundry room to include what used to be the original bathroom, and moved the bath across the hall. (Contractor: Tim Scherer from Regency Construction) In this phase of the remodel, we only worked on the portion of the house to the left of the middle chimney – everything from the breezeway on to the 2-car garage will be tackled in a future remodel!
When we bought this house it was our intention that this would be our forever home, which is why we've worked to make changes that are reflective of ourselves, as well as the original spirit of the home.
Based on my research, the following is the rough timeline for this home – the photo above is what the house looked like in 1952, before one of the remodels took place.
