Many of my mentors throughout my undergraduate and master’s degrees were also professors I took courses with, whose passion for the subject and their talent at imparting understanding and engagement during class time led me towards the research that I currently conduct. Because of this, and their inspiration and investment, I want to extend my teaching philosophy to research mentoring, and aim to create an environment that allows students to learn the necessary foundational research skills, explore concepts through unique frameworks, and support the creation of unique research questions that examine unique avenues within the discipline. By giving students the tools they need to interrogate the space and ask the questions that interest them to most, the hope is to promote learning and greater synthesis of the concepts. As with my own training in conducting empirical research and running experiments, I hope to support research students as they participate in the entire research process including conducting literature searches, creating new measures, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of findings at a publication level.
