Hi peeps, i've been running carmageddon, but I can't find any way to put it in hi-res like the older carmageddon version. The resolution is very shitty. It's 3dfx compatible. If i got a wrapper, would i be able to set it in higher resolution? Thanks

DGvoodoo is your only bet for 3dfx in carmageddon without a real 3dfx card. Unfortunately it crashes the game once you hit anything with physics (try hitting the posts on the snow level with the red lines on em and it'll crash right away). You can work around this issue by editing the physics in one of the game files if you don't mind changing the physics for objects in the game but then there is still other crash issues. There is a 3dfx patch that doesn't have this crash problem but then you get graphics corruption and the missing rear view mirror (and other special fx) and random crashes elsewhere so either way it's a paradox! ? ?

Dosbox is awesome and the best thing for pretty much any dos game but you're gonna need at least 4ghz of processing juice to get acceptable framerates in hires mode carmageddon! The only downside in virtual pc is the dreaded sound latency... You don't really notice it in carmageddon which is fine but in build engine games especially in Blood the sound is like almost 2 seconds behind!!. It's even worse if you install windows 98/me and run dos games in dos boxes (there are many issues with that especially if you install additions for added performance... Yeah right!). This is why I never use virtual pc for anything other than Carmageddon. I swear virtual pc is made only for carmageddon!

I've also have the max pack version of carmageddon, and the game crashes after the second loading screen if I use the "-hires" switch, this is because of wht you guys wrote about the removed software support, or because of an issue with the dosbox.conf? Also I've installed the "3DfxCarm.exe" patch in dosbox and doesn't work... Is it completly hopeless to make the a "-hires" switch operational for the max pack version like how it works in Splat Pack?

I get this error message during the second loading screen when I try to use the -hires switch: "Failure: DatafileStack type mismatch, wanted 2, got 2" Please help me with this, if it is possible.

UPDATE (Sunday, July 17) - The 405 Freeway construction project concluded around 11:30AM Pacific Time, 17.5 hours ahead of schedule. During Carmageddon, traffic turned out to be minimal, the bikes beat the plane between Burbank and Long Beach, Hitler made no appearances, and rarely have I seen Angelenos so generally calm. Favorite celebrity tweet (unedited): "i think this carmageddon thing was a hoax so thered be a traffic free day." - Pete Wentz, best known as the bassist for the rock band Fall Out Boy.

To install old carmageddon on a windows 7 64-bit computer, you will need to purchase the game or have the installation files, then follow the installation instructions provided by the game's developer. If you encounter any issues, you may need to adjust compatibility settings or use a virtual machine.

Yes, you can use a compatibility mode to run old carmageddon on your windows 7 64-bit system. Right-click on the game's executable file, go to properties, and under the compatibility tab, select the compatibility mode for the operating system the game was originally designed for.

There is no specific virtual machine recommended for running old carmageddon on a windows 7 64-bit system. However, some popular options include VirtualBox, VMWare, and Parallels. It is best to research and choose the one that best fits your needs and system specifications.

This sudden solitude grew out of a near-catastrophe half-jokingly dubbed "carmageddon." Construction and repair forced the closing of one of Southern California's main freeway arteries, and for weeks now predictions of disaster have flooded the media: frantic drivers pushed off the 405 would choke adjacent neighborhoods and streets. Emergency vehicles would be mercilessly trapped by the traffic; lives would be lost.

There is another planned "carmageddon" next summer, when the final phase of road repair requires another shut-down. I'm looking forward to it -- in the meantime, maybe the city council will pass a carmageddon law: just once a month, let's say, we close a big freeway or two for the weekend. The media helps whip up the panic and stoke the fear -- giving us all a good excuse to stop, put up our feet, and take a deep (exhaust-free) breath. ff782bc1db
