Ecce Homo

In the New Testament Gospels, Pontius Pilate presented Christ before the rabble, asking them what Christ’s fate should be. Pilate shouted, “Ecce Homo,” Latin for “Behold the Man.” The crowd cried out, “Crucify Him!” This image depicts a transsexual male caught in the middle of a similarly murderous, anti-gay mob. Here, I have drawn comparisons between two events, spanning thousands of years. This drawing was shown inside the 1992 “Refuge” installation.
