I placed this second homage to my late mother, Virginia, out of chronological order because it also referred back to my constructions from the early 1980s.  It utilized a thickly painted framework, various embossed papers, antique brass frames, and stained glass.  The enclosed drawing depicted a figure who looked heavenward and spoke softly in sign language, “I love you.”  A beautiful passage from the Song of Solomon (2:12), heralding the coming of Spring, here referred to my mother’s young passing in 1990, shortly before St. Valentine’s Day.  The blooming of crocuses and tulips, and the singing of morning doves and turtle doves—”the voice of the turtle”—remind me of her to this day.
