Hi! I'm Carlos Rodríguez Urra, Chilean journalist 🇨🇱 from Viña del Mar. Now I'm in Granada, Spain 🇪🇸 , since 2019. In 2020 I achieved my master's degree in New Interactive Media and Digital Journalism at the University of Granada. Now I'm doing my PhD thesis since 2021 in Social Sciences.
Now I am doing my doctoral thesis since 2021 in Social Sciences, which covers a breakdown of the historical media landscape of Hispanic America to know which media formats predominate by country (radio, television, press or digital natives) from the perception of the academic world to then make a descent towards the Chilean reality. In this section, a list of researches hosted in Scopus and Web of Sciences has been developed to know the trends.
This analysis of media systems is linked to the second part of my thesis, which is to analyze the Chilean media ecosystem at hyperlocal level, to generate a classification of media according to their degrees of development and commitment to audiences, as a case study will be taken the Aysen Region where interviews have been conducted with journalists and editors of local media to know their news production dynamics. It also analyzes the irruption of digital natives and how the paradigm shift of digital journalism has shaped the forces in this territory, which is characterized by a fervent localist sentiment associated with a community committed to its customs.
Also, news deserts are a current and universal issue. In fact, it is coined with the phrase "the expansion of the desert" to the areas without media, or with officialist and non-independent media. The idea is to generate a classification to identify where these deserts are in specific geographical areas.
Other lines of research of personal interest are: New narratives and emerging formats, digital transformation of the press, interactive media, immersive storytelling and innovation in journalism.
Otherwise, I enjoy photography, writing, videogames and digital animation.
