Carlos DuPont is the senior United States Senator from Georgia, having assumed office on January 20, 2023. Born on May 14, 1988, in Savannah, Georgia, Senator DuPont brings a distinguished record in public health, clinical care, and legislative leadership to his role in Congress. A proud African-American leader, he resides primarily in Savannah, Georgia, with a secondary residence in Asheville, North Carolina.
DuPont began his career in healthcare after earning a B.S. in Biology and Public Health from Emory University in 2009, followed by an M.S. in Respiratory Therapy & Pulmonary Sciences from Duke University School of Medicine in 2012. He later received an M.A. in Government & Health Policy from Georgetown University in 2017 and completed executive leadership training at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2020.
Before entering politics, DuPont worked as a certified respiratory therapist with Grady Health System in Atlanta, then as a Pulmonary Care Specialist at Duke University Hospital. From 2016 to 2019, he served as a Public Health Policy Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, focusing on equitable access to care and strengthening America’s healthcare infrastructure.
His political career began in the Georgia State Senate, where he represented the 5th District from 2019 to 2023. During this time, he championed health equity, Medicaid expansion, and workforce development. He also held a part-time academic appointment as a Lecturer in Public Health Policy at Emory University from 2020 to 2022.
Now serving in the U.S. Senate, DuPont is a vocal advocate for public health reform, affordable healthcare, climate resilience, and voting rights. He is known for his bipartisan work on veterans’ healthcare and maternal health access in rural communities.
Senator DuPont is married to Kristen DuPont. He stands 6’1” and weighs 192 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
