In 2019, I received a supplemental Title V grant to offer activities/workshops/professional development advancing GateWay Community College's (GWCC) understanding of cultural competence/diversity, inclusion, and equity.
In collaboration with a colleague, we designed a 9-month programming for the campus with a variety of activities, such as faculty presentations, women's panels, student's panels, food trucks, educational discussion, book club, etc.
The programming won a Diversity Advisory Council Award of Excellence in 2020.
I have developed and led numerous faculty/staff development workshops on a variety of topics, such as using active learning techniques, designing courses with UDL in mind, course design models, assessment, using technology to achieve objectives, developing an online course, teaching an online course, building community in an online course, developing flipped courses, developing HyFlex courses, implicit bias, diversity, equity, and inclusion, utilizing Google Apps for maximum collaboration, utilizing Google Apps to maximize your work, etc.
Additionally, I have developed programming for faculty:
This program met for six Saturdays during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. Each Saturday covered a separate topic and lasted for four hours. Topics varied from learner-centered teaching, assessment, using technology, course design and alignment, etc. At the end of the program, the adjunct faculty presented a 15-minute micro-teach and received feedback from their peers, invited department chairs, faculty developer, and myself.
This competency-based program included five courses covering 5 competencies: 1) Design of Instruction & Classroom Management, 2) Apply Learner-centered Practice, 3) Apply Assessments to Inform Teaching and Learning, 4) Apply Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices, 5) Professional Commitment to the Discipline, College, and District. Each course covered one competencies and lasted between 4-6 weeks. Participants created e-portfolios to show mastery of the competencies.
