“Good thing I have my umbrella!” he says.
Suddenly a strong wind blows.
“Oh no! My umbrella!” says Carl.
He looks up. He looks down. He looks right. He looks left. He looks all around.
“Where is my umbrella? I must go find it.”
Outside the station, Carl meets a student in Jimmy Park.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” Carl asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the student. She gives Carl an ox tongue cookie.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the student. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella!” says Carl.
He takes the ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Jhuangwei, Carl meets a farmer in a rice field.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the farmer. She gives Carl a bamboo hat.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the farmer. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the bamboo hat and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Toucheng, Carl meets a surfer at Wai’ao beach.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the surfer. He gives Carl a sea shell.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the surfer. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Jiaoxi, Carl meets a grandpa in the hot springs.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the grandpa. He gives Carl a swim cap.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the grandpa. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Yuanshan, Carl meets a hiker at Wanglongpi.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the hiker. She gives Carl a duck.
“Quack!” says the Duck.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the hiker. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Wujie, Carl meets an opera singer at the National Center for Traditional Arts.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the singer. She gives Carl a fan.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the singer. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Sanshing, Carl meets a chef in his stall.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the chef. He gives Carl some scallions.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the chef. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the scallions, fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Datong, Carl meets a train conductor on the Bon Bon train in Taipingshan.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the conductor. He gives Carl a toy train.
“Choo choo!” says the train.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the conductor. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the toy train, scallions, fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Nan’ao, Carl meets an Atayal dancer in a field.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the dancer. She gives Carl a headband.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the dancer. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the headband, toy train, scallions, fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Su’ao, Carl meets a fisherman on a boat.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the fisherman. He gives Carl a fishing pole.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the fisherman. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the fishing pole, headband, toy train, scallions, fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Dongshan, Carl meets a waitress at a tea house.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” he asks.
“No, but maybe this will help,” says the waitress. She gives Carl a cup of tea.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Suddenly, a strong wind blows.
“Look!” says the waitress. “Is that your umbrella?”
“Oh no! I must get my umbrella,” says Carl.
He takes the cup of tea, fishing pole, headband, toy train, scallions, fan, duck, swim cap, sea shell, bamboo hat, and ox tongue cookie and goes on his way.
In Luodong, Carl meets a tourist at the night market.
“Have you seen my umbrella?” Carl asks.
The tourist laughs, “Why do you need an umbrella?”
Carl looks up. It is not raining. “I don’t need my umbrella!”
A warm wind blows through the market. She gives him a peanut ice cream roll.
“Thank you!” says Carl.
Carl sits down and eats a peanut ice cream roll.
He looks around at his new treasures and thinks about his new friends.
He looks up at the stars.
“What a beautiful evening.”
