Kristine Domingo is a fiber/textile artist currently living and working in San Diego, California. She also works as an Autism/ Neurodiversity Advocate, Disability Activist and Creative Arts Mentor for a non-profit organization, Revision San Diego.
Caridad, with love is her soul project (dedicated to her great-grandmother) that explores the world of textile design and soft sculpture. She combines traditional knotting techniques and weaving to create fiber-based wall art. Her inspirations are shaped from her experiences as a second-generation Filipino American and the everchanging world around her. She hopes to create understanding and appreciation for handmade traditions, finding beauty that infinitely exists.
Each piece is made with recycled, zero-waste cotton fibers, driftwood, and items found in nature. With thoughtfulness and sweet sentiment Kristine constructs each work by hand using slow practice and a deep understanding of sustainability and its impact on future generations.
"Caridad with love was created to pay tribute to my great grandmother, Caridad P. Valencia. (pictured) We called her, Inang and from a very young age, she instilled a value in me that found beauty and appreciation in the process of making things by hand. Whether it be in macrame, sewing, or painting; the constant love to create exists in me, as it once existed in her. And with each piece I make, I continue to tell her story and remember all the beautiful things she brought into my life."
