This policy is short because Car Guru Ai does very little with your data. It describes what the app actually does today.
WHAT IS COLLECTED
There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you type or say is collected, because the app never asks for anything.
Car Guru Ai does use a small service we operate, which sits between the app and the AI model that reads your photo. What that service handles is described below.
WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE, AND WHEN
When you scan a car, by pressing the shutter or choosing a photo from your library, that one image is sent to our service, which passes it to Claude, an AI model operated by Anthropic PBC, and returns the answer to your phone.
Nothing is sent until you take that action, and nothing is sent at all until you have agreed on first launch. You can withdraw that agreement at any time in Settings, which stops the app sending anything and turns scanning off.
Photos are resized on your iPhone before being sent. No location data and no personal identifiers are attached.
WHAT OUR SERVICE KEEPS
Your photo is passed straight through. It is not written to disk on our side, and it is not kept after the answer comes back.
Two things are stored, both so that free and paid limits can be counted.
First, a random identifier created on your iPhone the first time you open the app. It is a random number. It is not your name, your Apple Account, your phone number, your advertising identifier, or anything issued by Apple, and it cannot be traced back to you. It is stored in the iOS keychain, which means it survives if you delete and reinstall the app. Otherwise the free reports would start over each time.
Second, if you subscribe, the receipt Apple issues for that purchase. We check it against Apple's own signature to confirm the subscription is real and current, and we count how many detailed reports you have used against it. We never see your payment details, your card, or your Apple Account. Apple handles all of that and never shares it with us.
Alongside those two identifiers we keep simple counts: how many scans have been made today and this month. Nothing else. These counts expire on their own.
WHAT ANTHROPIC DOES WITH THE PHOTO
Anthropic's handling is governed by their own terms and privacy policy at anthropic.com. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
WHAT STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE
Your saved scans (the photograph and the identification details) are stored only in the app's private storage on your iPhone. None of it is sent to us or backed up to any service we control. Deleting the app removes all of it.
You can delete individual scans by swiping in History, or all of them at once from Settings.
PURCHASES
Subscriptions and scan packs are bought through Apple. Apple tells us only that a purchase is valid and which product it was for. Manage or cancel any time in your Apple Account settings.
CHILDREN
Car Guru Ai is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
ACCURACY
Identifications, specifications and price estimates are produced by an AI model and may be wrong. They are provided for interest only and should not be relied on for purchase, insurance, valuation, or any other decision of consequence.
CHANGES
If this policy changes materially, the app will ask for your agreement again before continuing to send data.
