Venue
The "Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques" of Cargèse is an amazing venue situated on the coast of Corsica. It is one of the most beautiful and pleasant places for staying, due to its exceptional geographic environment, and for advancing research by means of intensive interactions with students and colleagues, which is one of the main missions of this CNRS Institute.
The Institute, then called Villa Menasina, was born in the 1960s as an association, under the direction of the eminent theoretical physicist Maurice Levy. At that time, only 2 or 3 schools of theoretical physics were held in summer. In 1975, thanks to public funding, the Institute acquired new premises. This made it possible to gradually extend the number of schools organised and to broaden the scientific themes. Since 1996 the Institute has been a CNRS unit attached to the University of Corsica. Nowadays the "Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques" of Cargèse hosts several scientific meetings including schools, conferences, workshops, thematic symposia, and attracting every year up to 2000 participants from all around the world.
How to get there
The easiest way to reach Cargèse is from Ajaccio, in the west coast of Corsica.
A shuttle will be available for school and workshop participants from Ajaccio airport, leaving at 15:30 on Sunday, June 27th.
The shuttle will also bring the participants to Ajaccio airport on Thursday, July 8th for departures.
The Institute will organize transportation by cab for participants arriving or leaving with a different schedule.
Cargèse village is at 15 minutes from the Institute. We recommend bringing good walking shoes and a flashlight.
