Empowering Families, Advancing Equity: Our mission is to create transformative change in the lives of autistic children and developmental disabilities, along with their families. Through rigorous research and community partnership, we investigate evidence-based interventions tailored to traditionally underserved populations and diverse cultural contexts. Our commitment to equity drives us to research and implement inclusive practices to ensure every child receives the support they need. By bridging research with real-world application and prioritizing family engagement, we strive to create a future where all children thrive.

The CARE Lab is currently conducting a new study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), focused on supporting caregiver engagement in early intervention services for autism. The study seeks to understand factors that promote optimal caregiver engagement in autism early intervention, particularly for Latino and Spanish speaking caregivers who tend to experience disparities in autism service access and care quality.
The CSULB Early Intervention Study is currently recruiting early intervention agencies providing Part C early intervention services in California. Therapists from participating agencies will be invited to complete a brief survey. Select therapists will be invited for a follow-up study in which they will jointly enroll with families on their caseload. Please see the flyer linked below for details. Email Dr. Barbara Caplan at Barbara.caplan@csulb.edu if you would like to learn more or enroll your agency.
We are currently partnering with investigators at SDSU (PI: Dr. Sarah Rieth) and UC Davis to examine parent engagement within a community effectiveness trial of an early intervention for autism called Project Impact.

The BRIDGE Collaborative consists of a transdisciplinary group of community providers, parents, funding agency representatives and researchers working together to develop a community plan to assist families of children with disorders relating and communicating from the earliest stages.
