In Canada, each occupation has an associated number to help simplify the research of job titles and sectors. These numbers are called National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes. If you are interested in a job title, or want to explore jobs related to an occupation, you can access the NOC code database using JobBank.gc.ca's Trend Analysis tool. By searching for a job title, you will automatically search for the NOC code associated with that job title. Each job title page in Trend Analysis includes:
A description of the occupation
Median wages
Job prospects over the coming years
Available jobs posted to the JobBank listing
Employment requirements and education
Skills and expertise
Using the Trend Analysis tool you can search as broadly (across Canada) or as specifically (to an individual city) as you would like.

Looking at a lot of data all at once can be overwhelming. One of the most comprehensive and easy to understand tools available to all Canadians are the Sector Profiles on NBJobs.ca. The Sector Profiles contain labour market information specific to 15 economic sectors in the province of New Brunswick. Each profile includes a report and a snapshot. The reports provide detailed information including statistics on GDP and productivity, a profile of the sector’s workforce (demographics, wages, etc.), regional highlights, and forecast data. The snapshots provide highlights from each report in the form of an infographic.
Look at the snapshot "Transportation and Warehousing Sector Snapshot" for an example of a high level overview of this sector. Take a deeper dive with the comprehensive "Transportation and Warehousing Sector Report" for sector labour market information in all regions of New Brunswick, and suggestions on what to research next, or national sector associations.
You can also use a tool called OpportuNext to quickly identify, and easily explore, your most promising career paths. OpportuNext is designed to highlight options that are both viable because they require many of the skills and abilities you already have, and desirable because they offer positive employment growth prospects and will pay you similar or better wages.
It's easy to get started! Enter your current job title in the search bar. The predictive text feature will show you several job title options — select the one that best matches your interests and click enter. You can browse the list of top career options that appears.
Once you click "View details” on a career match, you will be taken to a job profile page. You can make this career a favourite by clicking the heart. The job profile is now saved to your "Favourites”, which you can access through the navigation button at the top of any page.
