Zerk Studios provides the Lemon: Car Care mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how that information is used and stored, when information may be sent to third parties, and the choices available to users.
Information you provide
Depending on the features you use, the App may store:
optional profile information, including an email address;
vehicle information, including nickname, make, model, model year, VIN, license plate, mileage, acquisition information, vehicle notes, and maintenance-schedule information;
maintenance and service information, including service dates, mileage, completed services, notes, and assigned mechanic;
mechanic information that you enter, including name, location, notes, telephone number, and website;
vehicle photographs and photographs or documents selected or created for maintenance-record scanning; and
App preferences, including notification and appearance settings.
The App does not require a Car Care account and Zerk Studios does not operate a server that stores this information.
How information is used
The App uses this information to display and manage vehicles, mechanics, and service history; calculate maintenance schedules; identify upcoming and overdue maintenance; provide on-device reminders; recognize text in user-selected maintenance records; and create or restore user-requested backups.
Receipt and document text recognition is performed on the device using Google ML Kit. The App does not upload the selected image or document to a Zerk Studios server. Components required for on-device recognition may be provided or updated by Google services on the device.
Vehicle, profile, mechanic, service, and preference data is stored locally on the user’s device. Photos taken through the App may be saved in the device’s shared photo storage. Files selected through Android’s system file picker remain under the control of the selected storage provider.
Android or the device manufacturer may back up App data as part of the user’s device-backup settings. Such backups are controlled by the user’s platform account and provider, not by Zerk Studios.
Network requests and third parties
The App may make network requests when a user confirms vehicle details, requests maintenance-schedule information, or supplies a schedule webpage. These requests may provide vehicle make, model, and model year, or the user-supplied webpage address, to the relevant service. The service will also ordinarily receive technical connection information such as the device’s IP address and user-agent information.
Depending on the feature and vehicle, these services may include the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Product Information Catalog (NHTSA vPIC), vehicle-manufacturer or manufacturer-owner websites, and a website whose address the user specifically asks the App to access. Those third parties process information under their own privacy policies.
The App does not send the user’s profile email, VIN, license plate, service notes, mechanic information, photos, or service history to these vehicle-information websites.
User-directed backups
The App allows the user to create a JSON backup through Android’s system document picker. The user chooses where the backup is saved, which may include local device storage, Google Drive, or another installed document provider. A backup may contain the profile, vehicle, mechanic, and service information stored in the App, as well as references to photos. It does not embed the photo files themselves.
When a user selects a cloud provider, that provider receives and stores the backup at the user’s direction and under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. Zerk Studios does not receive a copy of the backup.
Data and analytics
Zerk Studios does not sell user information. The App does not contain advertising SDKs, behavioral tracking, or analytics services, and it does not share user information for advertising or marketing.
App data remains on the device until the user edits it, deletes an individual vehicle or mechanic, uses the App’s Reset app feature, clears the App’s storage in Android settings, or uninstalls the App, subject to any device or platform backup retained under the user’s backup settings.
Using Reset app deletes the profile, vehicle, mechanic, and maintenance information stored in the App on that device. It does not delete separately exported backup files, photos saved in shared photo storage, documents controlled by another storage provider, or copies retained by a device or cloud-backup provider. Users must delete those items through the relevant Photos, Files, Drive, or provider application.
Because Zerk Studios does not maintain user accounts or a Car Care server database, Zerk Studios generally has no remotely stored App account data to locate or delete. Privacy and deletion questions may be sent to the contact address above.
Notifications
With the user’s permission, the App schedules local notifications about upcoming or overdue vehicle maintenance. Notification settings can be changed in the App or in Android settings. The App does not use push-notification servers and does not send vehicle information to Zerk Studios to provide reminders.
Security and children's privacy
The App uses Android application-private storage for its local structured data and encrypted HTTPS connections for supported online lookups. No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users are responsible for protecting access to their device and any backup destination they select.
The App is a general vehicle-maintenance utility and is not directed to children under 13. Zerk Studios does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a Zerk Studios server.
Elastic clause
Zerk Studios may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App, legal requirements, or data practices. The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated when changes are made.
