Why 20 life?
-games are faster
-burn and small creature aggro decks become relevant archetypes
-players that get knocked out early can get back into the next game sooner
-most MTG cards are balanced around 20 life gameplay
Why are proxies allowed?
-we want to let anyone play regardless of how much money they have
-we're not forcing anyone to use them, if your playgroup doesn't like proxies then don't use them
Why aren't The Walking dead cards banned?
-this format has nothing to do with The Commander's Quarters' format of the same name
-proxies are allowed
-we don't want to punish people who do like The Walking Dead and purchased the secret lair
-The Walking Dead cards aren't too powerful for this format
-admittedly I'm not a fan of unique black bordered cards in a secret lair either
Why is the minimum number of cards? (as opposed to 100 cards)
-decks can become more focused
-mill becomes a relevant archetype
-Battle of Wits and Yorion, Sky Nomad are legal in this format
-some unmodified EDH, Oathbreaker, and Canlander decks are legal in this format (if they follow the new banned list)
-60 cards gives optimal "shuffle feel"
-decks are roughly 40% less expensive to build
Who is David Sheehab?
-he's the best magic player that you've never heard of
Who won the first ever 4 player pod of Captain?
-that would be Master Noe
Why is fast mana banned?
-fast mana can lead to lopsided gameplay
-it allows aggressive creatures to get outclassed less quickly
-storm decks becomes harder to play but aren't outright banned
Why are so many tutors banned?
-it keeps the sanctity of a singleton format
-gameplay is much faster without tutors
-combo decks are slightly harder to play without being outright banned
Why isn't big win condition 'X' banned?
-there are so many cards that 'win' the game in the 7-10 mana range it would be arbitrary to only ban some of them
-because aggressive creatures are more prevalent and fast mana is banned it isn't as free to get to 7+ mana
Why isn't combo piece 'Y' banned?
-we didn't want to outright ban anyone's favorite archetype
-combos are much harder to assemble without tutors
Why are silver bordered cards allowed?
-most of them are balanced and unique cards
-most on them are relatively inexpensive
-there's no where else to play silver bordered cards
Can I add house rules?
-of course you can suggest house rules to your playgroup
-in fact we're testing out house rules right now that might become official rules if they contribute to interesting gameplay
-one rule that we're playtesting is 'adding' 1 colourless phyrexian mana to all spells that have a colour that isn't in your captain's colour identity
What's the best way to contact you?
-just post on our Reddit page
Why shouldn't I just play EDH instead?
-Captain has faster paced games
-more deck archetypes are viable
-combo decks are less dominant
Why shouldn't I just play Oathbreaker instead?
-you should be playing Oathbreaker
-the banned lists are different
-it's easy to have both halves of a combo in the command zone (example: the Narset, Parter of Veils + Windfall signature spell deck)
Why shouldn't I just play Canadian Highlander instead?
-you should be playing Canadian Highlander
-Canlander is intended to be a 1v1 format and Captain is intended to be multiplayer
-but do whatever you want, play Canlander or Captain as 1v1 or multiplayer, whatever floats your goat
Captain isn't intended to replace any of your favorite formats, it's just here to give you another way to enjoy your favorite game!
