Capt. Rebekah studied English/Journalism and Ecology/Geology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After graduating, she moved to the Florida Keys in 1999 to become a reporter, covering numerous environmental issues. She won 13 statewide awards for her reporting, including the Florida Press Association's Outdoor Writing award for her coverage of lobster mini-season. In 2004, she started her own newspaper, The Upper Keys Times, with about 15 employees and numerous independent contractors. Her newspaper had the largest circulation of any newspaper in the Upper Keys (20,000 weekly) and also won numerous awards, including the Best of the Upper Keys "Best New Business" award. In 2009, Rebekah became a high school teacher, and in 2022 she got her USCG 6-pack captain's license in order to assist in the start-up of a charter boat business, focusing on ecotours, snorkeling, Keys history, and the natural Florida Keys environment. She currently runs private charters as a hired captain for boat owners and works as a captain for several snorkel/sightseeing/ecotour charter boat companies part time, and she works for Anchors Away Boat Rentals and Tours full time.Â
