Describe your action plan and how each of your four chosen competencies will influence its design and implementation.
I will finish my work on the Negotiations Committee and Team to work on providing as robust of a contract to support our staff as possible given the significant barriers we face. This will support my growth in the Overarching Competency of Group Processes. (See Artifact #5)
I’ve been asked to participate in the Election Committee and intend to do so in support of a fair and open election process. This will support my growth in the Overarching Competency of interpersonal Effectiveness. (See Artifact #6)
Conversations with current leadership indicate that there is a lack of understanding around the purpose of our BEA as well as too little delegation to the organization members. There appears to be a need for additional committees to be developed, improved communication, and additional visibility with Union leadership/members to increase engagement. This will support my growth in the Leadership Competency of Association Leadership. (See Artifact #7)
I have been introduced to the Worker Power Organization Program happening this summer and have signed up to participate. This will support my growth in the Foundational Competency of Explore and Challenge Inequity. (See Artifact #8)
How will your leadership leverage the strengths and address the needs of diverse stakeholders to support the action plan, develop capacity, broaden decision-making, and learn collaboratively?
My position and the service work I'm doing for the BEA as part of the negotiations team allows me the opportunity to reach out to all stakeholders in a variety of ways. This includes:
- Negotiations Team meetings to reach out to teachers, leadership and the board.
- Special education meetings provide a plethora of opportunities to reach families.
- Participating in legislative action such as the Decennial study, town halls, or public comments to the legislators allows me to promote leadership for the community as a whole.
How will you use collaboration, questioning, data, and reflection during the implementation of your action plan?
1:1 communication (empathy interviews, impromptu conversations, targeted communication with build reps and leadership)
Sharing information via email, committee meetings, personal meetings and text as well as sharing out survey results as available
When able, I will introduce and identify myself as a BEA member working on some service items to new/unknown staff as part of the negotiations
How will you address obstacles that you may encounter in implementing your plan?
Discuss them with internal and external supports including current members, current leadership staff, and supports from the state level as needed to either pivot or tackle problems as needed based on collaborative efforts.
How will you know if your action plan is successful? What evidence would support your claim?
Ratification of the contract as evidenced by voting results and board minutes
Ongoing collaboration with BEA leadership as evidenced by written communication including emails, calendar invites, and text messages
