personal bio

I remember first showing interest in art in elementary school. I really liked messing around with glitter and glue on paper. in high school, I  took ceramics, arts foundations, jewelry and fiber arts, and photographic processes. I would describe my art style as colorful and vibrant. something i would like to learn in art is slip casting.

the process

first, i planned my project by drawing out my idea. then I wedged the clay I would be needing. wedging the clay helps so that there are no air bubbles left within it. then I rolled out a slab and cut it into a circle. once I had my slab ready I started  to roll out some coils. using those coils I made a tree stump to which I added smaller and thinner coils to make branches. after my tree was formed i attacked it to my slab. i then rolled out another coil and cut it in half to create two trunks. after shaping them out i attached  to the slab so that they looked scattered on the ground. after that was done, I used a piece from a coil to shape out a water bottle, i attached the water bottle to a fraction of my project. i  used a pin tool to cut lines that didnt go through the slab but made sure to leave the crumbs of clay on it so it would look like cracked dirt. for the final fraction of my project i rolled out a slab, i cut it into a triangle  to add height to that fraction of my slab. i shaved down the edge of the layered slab then added super small coils to look like waves from the water.  i then used two square chunks to form two small oil tanks , i attached them to the slab. finally after it was fired i glazed the whole piece.

Connecting the Capstone

My artwork is about the economic destruction of the earth. I chose this issue because it is something that affects everyone and everything. I want people to be more aware of the events going on around us. The first third of my project is a scorched tree to represent the increase in wildfires. Another third of my project is bottled water placed over dry cracked land to represent droughts and lack of clean water around the world. The final third of my project is a beach with trash in the water and oil spills to represent littering and water pollution.

Art Classes and Education

My art classes have taught me how to plan and how to trust what I am doing. Learning how to plan will help me in the real world because it will stop me from doing things impulsively and thinking things through.  Trusting what I am doing will allow me to have more patience for myself. After high school, I want to find a job. The skills that I have learned in my art classes will allow me to take my time and not rush this process.

Future Changes

If I had to change anything about the project, I would make it more bigger. I would like to add more sections to it like world hunger. There are many big issues going on in the world, so I would want to include more of them.
